Clare Moon Art

Clare Moon Art Contemporary abstract and representational paintings I create realistic and imaginative images in oil and acrylic paint.

I started as a printmaker with formal training but had to teach myself to paint without the certainty of lines. A lot of my work is simply enjoying the medium and the subject matter comes as an excuse for getting to play with the paint. Sometimes the line between realism and abstraction becomes blurred. The title and the image have a relationship which is important to me. Painting is a meditation

and the process is more important than the product, despite the rumors. I am a native of Michigan but have spent most of my life in Oklahoma, influenced by the natural beauty of both places as well as the sights and sensations experienced while traveling in Europe. I have a BA in Studio Art from Alma College and an MA in Art History from Michigan State University.

Biography:
Clare Moon was born in the Capital city of Michigan to a mother who was an artist and a father who was a physician mystified by art. She graduated from Alma College with a B.A. in Studio Art. Clare started graduate school in printmaking at Bowling Green State University but became intrigued with the art history requirements and changed to a Master of History of Art at Michigan State University. Her thesis is on the American Etching Revival. In her first incarnation, Clare worked in graphite, pastels and colored pencils over watercolor. She exhibited in various juried shows, winning some recognition. Then, she took a decades-long hiatus. In 2021, Clare returned, exploring painting for the first time and decided to make her remaining practice a meditation on self-realization. Clare has lived in Oklahoma since 1981.
