June Taylor's School of Dance

June Taylor's School of Dance Bringing the love of dance to students of all ages in the Greater Portland Area since 1984. Classes are available in ballet, jazz, tap and pilates.

Ever since June Taylor-Dixon first opened her doors in 1984, June Taylor's School of Dance has been dedicated to bringing the joy of dance and the performing arts to the greater Portland area. June Taylor-Dixon's carefully selected teacher faculty is accredited with extensive training as well as professional dancing and teaching experience. They teach with the proven syllabus of the Royal Academy

of Dance (R.A.D.), a special teaching method developed with the knowledge of children’s developmental stages. This allows young dancers to progress at a rate to which their bodies can safely grow and improve. (To learn more about the Royal Academy of Dance program see the following link: http://www.rad.org.uk/)

June Taylor School of Dance offers classes for dancers of every age and technical background. She welcomes beginners from ages three to adult as well as professionals. All classes are devoted to nurturing the talent of each individual dancer. Students are given the opportunity to perform and grow artistically in a safe, fun and professional setting. June Taylor’s School of Dance is also the home of Northwest Dance Theatre, a non-profit dance company that gives pre-professional dancers the opportunity to perform in the greater Portland area. Miss June welcomes you to come explore our website and observe class at our studios in Tualatin. Come dance with us and experience the many joys dance has to offer!

Our next Alumni Connect update comes from Emma at Gonzaga University!

Emma has just completed her junior year as a Biochemistry major and Dance minor. This spring she not only performed in Gonzaga’s Spring Dance Concert, but also had the opportunity to choreograph her own work for the Student Choreography Showcase.

Inspired by her studies and research experience, Emma created FRET, a piece named after Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer, a chemical phenomenon in which energy transfers between molecules without physical contact. Through movement, the work explored how energy is shared, redirected, and transformed from dancer to dancer, from stillness to urgency and back again.

The dancers in white featured in this reel are performing Emma’s original choreography, FRET. She also performed in We Insist, choreographed by fellow student Clio Tzetos, as part of Gonzaga’s Spring Dance Concert.

We love seeing our alumni finding creative ways to connect their academic passions with dance. Congratulations on a wonderful spring semester, Emma!

We’re heading to Michigan for our next Alumni Connect update!

Lia has just completed her sophomore year at the University of Michigan, where she is majoring in Biomedical Engineering and minoring in Electrical Engineering.

Alongside her studies, Lia continues to dance with Salto Dance Company, performing both classical and contemporary works throughout the year.

This summer, she is conducting research at the Biointerfaces Institute at the University of Michigan, studying electrical stimulation of the retina with the goal of restoring vision to people with blindness. She is also part of the Michigan Synthetic Biology Team, which is developing magnetotactic bacteria to guide cancer therapeutics and will represent their work at the iGEM competition in Paris this fall.

We are so proud of all that Lia is accomplishing both in the studio and in the lab. Keep reaching for the stars, Lia!

Charlotte:
We’re staying in Utah for our next Alumni Connect update!

Our second alumni spotlight also takes us to U Dance at the University of Utah—where Charlotte and Julian, friends since their JTSD days, have continued sharing the stage!

Charlotte is wrapping up her sophomore year and has had a marvelous year of dance! While spring semester kept her especially busy auditioning for trainee positions with various companies, she still found time to perform in U Dance’s spring production of Giselle, where she was also the understudy for the role of Giselle.

Charlotte, all of your teachers and friends at JTSD are cheering you on through audition season! We are so proud of you and hoping this fall brings an exciting step into the professional dance world.
