Friends and fellow writers, We are excited to announce We Write 22! We Write 22 is a 5-day, 4-night writing and storytelling retreat in Puerto Escondido curated by Alchemy Poetry Co-founder and multicultural educator, artist, & keynote speaker .haseverything. We Write 22 is designed to renew and empower the creative spirit. We intend to curate an environment where creatives can fully channel their artistic vision. This experience includes daily yoga, exclusive workshops from award-winning writers, and cuisine prepared by private chefs. However, the most rewarding feature of We Write 22 is space to connect with your own creative voice and the opportunity to fellowship with other writers, artists, and creatives. We also want to ensure that this experience is accessible so we are offering some partial scholarships for Indigenous (North, Central, and South American) artists, and artists of the African diaspora. We welcome ALL to join us for a week of enchantment, art, and the ocean.

Featuring the visual and performance art
of Fatima Elzien,
Rohena Alam Khan
and Y. Ben Yisrael

BLOOM FR is loosely based on Jean-Michel Basquirt’s
famous catchphrase boom for real.

Rooted in exploration
and imagination
this show features bold and thematic canvassed art,

The traditional dance form of Bharatanatyam as presented by
Rohena Alam Khan

Performance poetry by
Fatima Elzien,
and Y. Ben Yisrael

Bloom For Real is an exploration of color, culture, alchemy,
that conjures Rebirth and rebuilding.

Blooming as it relates to internal revolution.

Blooming as it relates to metamorphosis.

Bloom as in the process of making the world more ornate
through transformation
into the flower that
we wish to
See.

Struggle, sorrow, passion,
lust and introspection
on the canvas

is what Bloom F.R. embodies
An ode to the beastly and angelic
natures which wrestle within us all.

An initiation beyond the expectations of society

This is vulnerability and defiance.
An examination of the most important movement of them all.

The riots within our hearts and the invitation to suppress them or submit.

We Bloom when we take that leap of faith in ourselves.
We Bloom when we rejoice in our collective genius.
We bloom when we crown ourselves.

We’re baaaaack! And I’m HELLA hype. I started curating the Rhyme & Reason spoken word poetry show for around two years ago. It’s a show amplifying the voices and stories of Black folks, as told by Black folks. I’m very intentional about bringing in Black artists and honoring diverse perspectives and stories. At each show, four performers bless the stage with intimate, beautiful, and intersectional storytelling and song. The next show is set for this coming Friday at September 17th. For this showcase, I wanted to pay homage to a few of the spoken word artists who inspired me to step into the Seattle poetry scene and the ones who inspire me to keep going. This show will feature performances by who was the first featured poet I heard shortly after moving to seattle in 2014, , “The Billie Holiday of spoken word who wrapped up her ‘Verbal Oasis Spoken Word festival’ just last week, the brilliant of whose book was just named a finalist for the Washington State Book Award in the poetry category, and yours truly, . I’m incredibly excited to have these beautiful souls bless the stage with their brilliance. 🙏🏾 Soulful sounds and vibes before and after the show will be provided by . Doors open at 7pm. Showtime begins at 8pm. Cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages will be available at the bar. Dinner is available with a reservation.

In compliance with WA state COVID safety guidelines, masks will be required regardless of vaccination status. Please wear your mask while moving around the venue, and when you're not eating or drinking EVEN IF YOU ARE VACCINATED. We want to keep everyone safe, including you. Check the link in my bio for tickets and more info. Mask up and pull up.
