You don’t have to entertain your tattoo artist.

Some of my clients talk to me through almost their entire appointment. Others put their headphones in, get comfortable, and barely say anything.

I genuinely enjoy both.

It’s your appointment. If talking helps the time pass, we’ll talk. If you’d rather zone out for a few hours, I’m perfectly comfortable with that too.

Which one are you during a tattoo: telling your entire life story or disappearing into your own world?

Worried your tattoo appointment is going to be awkward?

You don’t have to come prepared with several hours of conversation.

Some clients talk to me the entire appointment. Some get comfortable, zone out, and barely say anything.

Neither one bothers me.

I usually just follow the client’s lead. If you want to talk, we’ll talk. If you’d rather relax and be quiet, that works too.

There’s already enough to think about when you’re getting tattooed. Keeping me entertained doesn’t need to be one of them.

Which one are you: talking the whole appointment or happily zoning out?

“I know what I want, I just don’t know how to explain it.”

I hear some version of this pretty often. You don’t need to know tattoo terminology or come in with a perfectly planned design.

Tell me what you like, what you don’t, and what you’re hoping for. We can figure it out from there.

Sometimes the idea in your head is hard to put into words, and that’s okay.

A big part of my job is asking the right questions, figuring out what matters most to you, and translating that into a tattoo that feels right.

You don’t have to have every detail figured out before you reach out.

Apparently I have more opinions about random things than I realized 😂

Some tattoo related, some definitely not.

Swipe through for a few of mine, and then I’m curious:

What’s something random you’re surprisingly opinionated about?

Your favorite tattoo on someone’s page might be what gets you there… but zoom out before you book.

Save this for the next time you’re artist hunting.

Finding an artist whose work you love is important. Finding one whose judgment you trust matters just as much.

What’s a green flag you look for in a tattoo artist?

You can change your mind.

Even after we’ve moved the stencil. Even if you thought you liked the placement five minutes ago.

One thing that still surprises me is how often people worry they’re being difficult by asking for another adjustment.

I don’t see it that way.

We’re talking about something that’s going to stay on your body. Taking another few minutes to make sure you feel good about it is completely reasonable.

How many times would you feel comfortable asking an artist to move a stencil: once, twice, or as many times as it takes?

One of the easiest tattoo mistakes to prevent happens before the tattoo even starts.

I’ve had clients hesitate to ask me to move a stencil because they don’t want to be difficult.

Please ask.

If something feels too high, too low, slightly crooked, or you just aren’t sure yet, I’d rather move it five times than have you stay quiet about something that’s about to become permanent. You’re not inconveniencing me. This is part of the process.

Have you ever wanted to speak up during a tattoo appointment but worried you were being difficult?
