Congratulations are in order for our community member RIck Ansaldi! His piece “On The Trail Ride To The Hopi Butterfly Dance” will be on display at the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum during “The 47th Annual Contemporary Crafts exhibition” February 13th- June 28th 2026. Rick writes of this piece: Our Hopi Guide walked us through Walpi, the pre-historic pueblo improbably built atop a vertical mesa overlooking Arizona. She told us that she would be dancing the “Hopi Butterfly Dance” at Zuni Pueblo the next day. We considered backtracking but we chose instead to hike a remote trail down into the Grand Canyon. One extraordinarily large yellow butterfly appeared out of nowhere. Lee extended his arm and it fearlessly landed on his finger. That was our Hopi Guide saying “hello” to us as she danced while we hiked that afternoon. This clay piece celebrates that event.

Beautiful Malcolm Davis vessel with bamboo design, high fire reduction.

Malcolm Davis (1937–2011) was a transformative American studio potter best known for his pioneering work with carbon‑trapping Shino glazes. His career is notable both for his late entry into ceramics and for his widely influential discovery of the “Malcolm Davis Shino,” a glaze that reshaped contemporary studio pottery.

Call to Artists: Art Auction

Romero House Ceramics is seeking donations of ceramic artwork that will be auctioned off the night of Saturday November 1st, 2025 as a fundraising event for Romero House.

This will be our kickoff event for a year of celebration! We will be hosting a collection of events over the coming months, culminating in a grand finale celebration in the fall of 2026. We hope you’ll join us!

Our fundraising goal is to raise enough to rebuild our iconic catenary arch kiln originally built in 1977.
={^. .^}=
We also need to make necessary upgrades and repairs to the studio and equipment, including expanding our fence to accommodate more usable space. 100% of money raised will go towards these goals.

The Romero House has a legacy of teaching and maintaining a creative studio for ceramic artists in a community setting. As the first community studio in Tucson and as part of the Tucson Museum of Art’s historic block, we want to sustain this heritage well into the future.
