A very serendipitous thing happened this week. On Sunday morning the 10th of April, the actors were sitting at their stations, looking over the script and waiting for the few guests we had coming to listen to the first partial draft of the new Pastorela – Pastorela del Pueblo. Some of the “seasoned Pastorela performers” mentioned a beautiful person we lost some years ago at such a very young age. It’s been such a terrible time of loss, that I think I was especially moved at the mention of her name. Consuelo Aguilar was a person who brought sunshine with her wherever she went. I loved being around her, working with her and listening to her infectious laugh, and beautiful voice. We have lost so many these past few years, it was all I could do not to break into tears. I hadn’t thought about Consuelo for some time, her’s was such an untimely death it’s not an easy one to ponder. Well, this is the serendipitous thing, I’ve been doing a lot of Pastorela homework and research for the play, and was looking for something totally different, when I accidently discovered I had an old link to some pictures she sent me in 2008. I couldn’t believe it, after all this time, and the link worked! Here I’ve posted some of them for all of us to remember. Thank you so much Consuelo, you will forever be missed by all who came in contact with you and your extraordinary person. I think it gives us pause, and I’d like to encourage everyone, to post a memory you might have had of either our Tucson Pastorela in days past, or Pastorelas you may have experienced other places.

Christmas in May – Teatro de la Calle Fundraising Event!

It’s Happening! This is the first full season of my new Chicana forward theater company. What better way to celebrate than by bringing back our beloved “Pastorela!” Yes, that’s right, I am producing this folklore tradition in a brand new production with a full cast of some of our most seasoned Pastorela performers and some brand new to this tradition. Come celebrate a preview of “Pastorela del Pueblo: Where Have all the Messiahs Gone?” during our May 1st fundraiser, and a little taste of the rest of my very first full season! Including: music, nibbles, and a super fun silent auction!
