Tucson Murals Project

Tucson Murals Project Tucson Murals - a continuing legacy of mural history stewardship. Mural news, photos, and more. He said, ‘We always focus on the negative - Who got shot?

From the blog....

The Tucson Murals Project was founded in the summer of 2006 by Randy Garsee, a television news reporter (who, then, had co-anchored the weeknight KOLD 13 newscasts for almost ten years). Randy loved the hundreds of murals in Tucson; he wanted to find and share all of them with Tucsonans and visitors alike. As Randy said at the time (recalled by his wife, quoted in the Arizona Da

ily Star article written after his death in 2013):
“It was something he thought was real cool and needed to be brought to everyone's attention. Somebody got killed. Why can't we focus on the good in the place where we live?’”

Almost a year later, Jerry Peek joined the Project. The next year, Randy left Tucson. As the years went on, Jerry and Randy coordinated by email and phone; a number of times, the two of them wrestled with questions such as what’s appropriate content for the blog and what qualifies as a “mural.” (Here's part one of the long-running series “Maybe a mural.”)

After Randy’s untimely death, Jerry started doing the blog solo. He rides his bicycle around Tucson looking for murals (and mailboxes and other art). Since then, a number of other art lovers send in mural reports and David Aber has joined as co-editor. A mural map and database are taking shape. Please help out by telling Jerry about murals you find — or by sending your comments, thoughts, and questions. You can read more about Randy and the blog in our March 13, 2013 post titled: Farewell Randy: http://tucsonmurals.blogspot.com/2013/03/farewell-randy.html

Jerry here. Every Wednesday, Dusty's Tucson Murals blog highlights a mural between 2006-2025 from The Tucson Murals Project. It's a great way to see and read about one of the 2,000 murals in the archive. Here's this week's post (subscribe to see more!):

A huge complex under construction to be a showcase for sports and entertainment will be a showcase for local art too.

The Tucson Murals Project 2.0 blog is still cranking out murals photos (usually) 3 mornings a week. Here are the latest daily posts in a "magazine" format (which you can choose from the dropdown menu at top left). Unlike the flipcard view, it shows some text from the start of each post. (On my computer, FB isn't showing the bottom of the image. You might want to click/tap this screenshot for a larger, scrollable view.)

The last three posts on the Tucson Murals Project 2.0 show the closed "mural gallery" near 6th Ave & 36th St and what it used to be. There's also a long wall of murals next to it.

Joe Pagac's mural at Ari on Fourth made the news because it was vandalized. Just by chance, a week ago the Tucson Murals Project 2.0 blog had photos of Joe painting the mural.

Murals in Tucson, Arizona, USA beginning in 2025. The previous blog, The Tucson Murals Project, has murals from 2006 to 2024.

If you'd like to scroll through 500+ murals over the holiday, and you haven't seen the website tucsonAZmurals.com by BG Boyd Photo, have a look! An interesting spot is the "No Access" murals that you can't see from outside a building, fence, etc:
