Social media sucks!
It runs on fear and divisiveness.
This is why, even as a small business that should be using it, we are so bad at posting.
But sometimes it can be used for positive things. And I’d like to share one here:
As many of you know, we spend the month of August every year digging dinosaur bones. We do not get any monetary gain, in fact it cost us money-and we don’t get to keep anything we collect! It all goes to a museum to benefit the general public.
But what we DO get is amazing experiences and memories. And even more important, we get to meet so many awesome people. People from different countries, different languages, cultures, backgrounds, and believes. People who have all become treasured friends
There are so many I won’t mention names, because I’m afraid I’ll forget somebody!
There’s our mentor, one of our first customers (many years ago) who has become a dear friend and introduced us to this world. There’s his whole family, who we consider our family too. There’s the man who taught us everything we know about digging fossils, the lady who we lost this year and miss so much, the man (and his lovely wife) who has taught us everything we know about dinosaurs and their bones. There are geology students, well-known international fossil and mineral collectors and dealers, residents and neighbors in a very small town who welcome us back every year. There’s a show promoter and his family, the woman who reminds us to have fun, other museum owners and staff, Church missionaries and even motorcycle clubs just passing through.
Some who we have developed deep and lasting friendships with, and some only passing through once, but remaining forever in our hearts.
