Part of my new body of work: Milk and Cookies with Strangers.
A parking space, some shade, hundreds of home made cookies and two ice chests full of milk, a table and some chairs.
I'm grateful to all the strangers who stopped and hung and had milk and cookies and talked to other strangers; it wouldn't have been any fun without them, and I appreciate their trust and stories and open hearts.
We shared milk and cookies with at least 100 guests: Little old ladies, gutterpunks, families with kids, cyclists, Mormon missionaries, UofA students and at the end of the day a multigenerational group of friends out on a FREE HUGS! mission. Free Hugs collided with free milk and cookies for a big ol' love fest.
My face hurts from smiling.
I love my city and the people in it.

Since I quit being a studio artist, I've been playing in the street. Making street art, organizing community events in the street, making art for street events and coordinating other artists to participate in street events.
My latest work: the Street Life Rubber Stamp Scavenger Hunt. I carved 25 little passport stamps for various activities along this Sunday's Cyclovia route. Pick up a passport at any of the info booths and see if you can find all the stamps. Here's a small sample:

My old painting, Butter Devil, got picked up by this great blog!
http://twinklysparkles.wordpress.com/2012/03/16/the-natural-order/

Don’t be frightened, my pets, but I have a harrowing tale to tell. Yesterday in my kitchen, I discovered, to my great horror, that someone had opened a second stick of butter and used a clean...

My painting for the Emily Dickinson Birthday Bash got a mention in the Weekly's preview of the show:
"Dickinson was a serious gardener, and flowers, birds, snakes and other creatures make frequent appearances in her poetry. Janet Miller picked up on Dickinson's affection for nature, and her sometimes-overlooked humor, in Bee! I'm expecting you! In her reverse-glass painting, Miller imagines a romantic meeting between a fly and a bee. The shiny gold bee greets the fly with a bouquet of pink flowers."

If Emily Dickinson were alive today, she'd be celebrating her 181st birthday on Dec. 10. She's not, of course.

Here's the piece I made for the Emily Dickinson Big Read, closing Saturday night, December 10. I was invited to create a piece using a first line from one of ED's poems. Bee! I'm expecting you!

Our opening reception will take place on Dec. 10 during Second Saturdays downtown as part of our Big Read project finale: Emily Dickinson's birthday bash! Click here for more information.
