Steampunk Hawaii is an eclectic group of cosplayers, crafters, tinkerers, and creative dreamers based in the Hawaiian Islands but spanning the world, united by a common fascination with the Steampunk genre, fashion and culture. Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s. Specifically, steampunk involves an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century and often Victorian-era Britain—that incorporates prominent elements of science fiction and fantasy.

Steampunk Hawaii outing to Old Waialua Sugar Mill on Oahu's North Shore! 

The sugar mill was a sugarcane plantation and processing plant in operation from 1865 to 1996 and had its own railway system and the largest water storage capacity in the state of Hawaii. 

Today, it's a vibrant little collective of shops, holistic services, art studios, a distillery, the Waialua Coffee company, and local produce sellers. Some of these folks got hit hard during the Kona Low storms a couple months ago and are still struggling to recover, so in addition to taking photos in a really cool historic location, we wanted to support them.

New SH Mascot?
Meet Hershey , a 7-year-old chocolate lab and professional Service Dog. He and his dad Trenton Kakazu like to come to Kawaii Kon to see the sights. Although he usually doesn't dress up, he agreed to rock this hat for a minute, and we think he looks darn good in it!
