Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s. Specifically, steampunk involves an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century and often Victorian-era Britain—that incorporates prominent elements of science fiction and fantasy.

A few "best of" photos from Wild Wild West Con 2025 (with a Halloween theme) at Casino Del Sol in Tucscon, AZ. While the Con was unexpectedly cut short on its second day by the outbreak of a contagious virus (believed to be norovirus/stomach flu) which caused the venue to end the convention suddenly and give all attendees, staff and vendors two hours to get off the premises, it was a wonderful time while it lasted!

New SH Mascot?
Meet Hershey , a 7-year-old chocolate lab and professional Service Dog. He and his dad Trenton Kakazu like to come to Kawaii Kon to see the sights. Although he usually doesn't dress up, he agreed to rock this hat for a minute, and we think he looks darn good in it!

A few photos from the 75th Anniversary of the Hawaiian Railway Society and Rededication of the Hawaii Merci Boxcar, Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025! It was wonderful to meet several new friends from the Daughters of the American Revolution National Headquarters, a group that helped with the renovation.

In 1949, Hawaii received the Merci boxcar from France as a gesture of gratitude for its contribution of 80 tons of sugar to aid in post-World War II rebuilding efforts. Originally a World War I-era artifact, the boxcar was left outside and deteriorated over time but has since been restored by the Hawaiian Railway Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution, and is now on display at the HRS yard.

Aloha from the 15th Hawaii Geek Meet, September 24, 2023! Steampunk Hawaii represented with a tent, where we passed out free odds & ends, and talked to everyone who stopped by on a lovely afternoon out at Magic Island. Mahalo to the Ozawa family, who organized the whole thing, and to all the participating organizations, from cosplayers to scientists.
