The Invisible Theatre (IT) of Tucson, a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization, is dedicated to producing quality theatre and arts education experiences for all facets of the community in an intimate setting that showcases local professional talent and guest artists. IT takes its name from the invisible energy that flows between a performer and audience, creating the magic of theatre. Started in 1971 a

s an arena for local playwrights, the theatre has expanded its programs to include adaptations of classics and recent Off-Broadway plays and musicals, while continuing to encourage new playwrights through both full productions and stage readings. Under the leadership of Managing Artistic Director Susan Claassen and Associate Artistic Director James Blair, IT is strongly committed to community service and outreach programs. The current season includes a six-play main stage season, student/senior matinees, unique special events, educational tours, Project Pastime – an educational theatre program for the mentally challenged youth and seminars that encourage community dialogue. The Invisible Theatre, the recipient of the 1999 Arizona Theatre Association Award for Best Producing Theatre Company, is a member of the Theatre Communications Group and has long enjoyed both local and national recognition for its strong leadership role in the arts community. The theatre is administered by a professional staff and an advisory board, augmented by over 50 theatre artists annually. Productions take place in IT’s intimate 80-seat home space and at the 496-seat Berger Performing Arts Center. IT celebrates its 50th Anniversary with an even greater commitment to professionalism, artistic excellence, accessibility, freedom of expression and diverse programming – thus making the Invisible Theatre a very visible force in Tucson’s cultural community.

When the mercury climbs and the pavement shimmers, Invisible Theatre has your escape. This July, the beloved Tucson institution presents Alejandro Canelos' 10-Minute Dramas — an evening of eight lightning-fast, wildly inventive short plays that promises to be as surprising and satisfying as a monsoon after a long, hot week.

Written by Tucson playwright Alejandro Canelos, the eight pieces range gloriously across the map of human experience. How does one get bitten by a rattlesnake? What does a woodpecker with a concussion sound like — and why can't it stop? What happens when teenage angst collides with adult cluelessness? And what, exactly, is the proper protocol for dropping your pants at the grocery store? From the absurd to the achingly real, Canelos brings a playful intelligence and a Tucsonan's sharp eye to every ten minutes he puts on stage.

Bringing Canelos' characters to life is: Josh Parra, Hannah Turner, Sean Hazen, and Lori Hunt. Each performer takes on multiple roles across the eight pieces! Directed by Betsy Kruse Craig and Carrie J. Cole.
