As I sit here, on an empty stage, looking out at what used to be our beautiful little theatre, it is a bit overwhelming. To see the last 5 years of our lives stacked against the walls, packed in boxes, laying in random piles waiting to be sorted, donated or thrown away, brings back so many memories. Thoughts of directors who have shared their wisdom and skill, actors whose talents make us feel something, crew who make it all work, volunteers who give freely of themselves to help us be successful. It breaks my heart, not just for the void I will feel when this place no longer exists, but for all of those people who have left their mark on this theatre in one way or another. It is funny to see bits and pieces of different shows sticking out of a pile of lumber, or a piece of furniture used on a particular set, a costume piece specific to a character, all sparking a memory and creating a montage of the years in my mind. The silence is deafening to me but at the same time it is a welcome opportunity to try and gain some clarity and focus on where to take us in the future.
Enough of the waxing sentimental and reminiscing. Time to get to work, finish this chapter of history and move on. And move on we most definitely will. As of now, the question of where is the one remaining to be answered. I wish I could. Progress, al be it a small amount, had been made in discussions with one possible location, but due to a less than enthusiastic realtor and a couple of major issues that needed attention, I am afraid that may no longer be a possibility. Other places have been looked at and considered and for one reason or another just weren’t right. Suffice it to say that when the right space comes along, we should be ready to go. We do have a couple of things we are working on so we will not just fade away. We will still continue to do good theatre, it just won’t be in our own space. Look for us soon and look for us to stay a staple in the Tucson theatre community.
I am going to miss this place.
