If the conversation is really about protecting women, then reproductive freedom, healthcare, equal pay, childcare, paid leave and bodily autonomy should be at the center of it. Instead, we keep getting redirected toward other marginalized people while actual policy decisions continue shaping women’s lives.

Before anybody asks what Black women have done for everybody else, open a history book. From abolition and labor rights to civil rights, women’s liberation, reproductive justice and LGBTQ+ advocacy, Black women have repeatedly stood in movements that benefited people far beyond themselves. So no, we’re not rewriting history over here. We’re bringing the receipts. 🖤

Watching Black men co-sign the degradation of Black women because they think proximity to whiteness somehow moves them closer to power is exactly why this conversation needs to be had. You are not being invited into the hierarchy, you’re being used to help maintain it. And Black women will never have to prove their value to somebody committed to misunderstanding them.

If we agree the comments were racist, then what exactly was “manufactured”? The racism already happened. Calling attention to it doesn’t create it. It exposes it. And apparently, class is back in session because words still have meanings. 📚
