Mark your calendars! Here are some of the Tryon Summer Youth Theater cast who are staging Disney's "Newsies, Jr. " an adaptation of the hit Broadway musical designed for young performers. The show was inspired by the real-life newsboys’ strike in New York City in 1899, who unite to fight against unfair conditions imposed by powerful newspaper publishers. Based on the 1992 film, music is by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and the book by Harvey Fierstein.

This 60-minute production is directed by Donna Everett-Ferguson, with music director Pam McNeil. A huge and talented cast of local youth (42 of them!) are working hard to bring this rousing and powerful musical to the stage in Tryon.

The show runs July 16-19, at the Tryon Fine Arts Center. Tickets are $5 for those under 18, and $10 for adults. Tickets can be purchased online at www.tltinfo.org, or by calling 828-859-2466.

SO - what do you do when the lights go out?
If you are in the theater, you pull out your cell phones, hand out flashlights, and finish Act 2! Bravo to the intrepid cast, crew and audience of “Steel Magnolias” Friday night - the show DID go on! 👍

Sometimes - just sometimes - the director will play a little trick on his cast, especially when they have nailed their parts and the rehearsals are solid. Like this night. The baby photos Shelby is showing her friends have been swapped out for the ugliest baby pics ever. Kudos to the cast who still remembered their lines through guffaws of laughter! Ben Chumley directed, and enjoyed the moment tremendously.
"Steel Magnolias" is running for the last weekend at the TLT Workshop Theater in Tryon (May 14-17). Tickets are available at www.tltinfo.org, or by calling 828-859-2466.

Yes, "Steel Magnolias" can be heartbreaking at times, but the show is about resilience, friendship, laughter and love. The women in the show are as delicate as magnolias but as tough as steel. Cat Rondeau plays M'Lynn Eatenton, dealing with one of life's tragic moments.
Directed by Ben Chumley, this beloved play is coming up for its last weekend at the TLT Workshop Theater in Tryon. Tickets are going fast, so don't wait. Visit www.tltinfo.org, or call 828-859-2466 for tickets.

Audiences have watched Maggie Carter since she started acting and singing in the youth productions at the age of 12. Thankfully, she is still pursuing her passion. Recently in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Marvelous Wonderettes, and Gypsy, she is gracing the stage as Annelle in TLT's "Steel Magnolias", playing for the last weekend at the TLT Workshop Theater. She's a recent graduate of Southern Hew Hampshire University and is currently pursuing an MFA in fiction writing.
The last weekend for the show is coming up, and tickets are selling fast - Sunday is sold out! So don't wait - get your tickets before you miss it. Visit www.tltinfo.org, or call 828-859-2466 for tickets.

What interesting characters these two play. Holly Shockley and Donna Everett-Ferguson portray Clairee and Ouiser in "Steel Magnolias", the season closer at the TLT Workshop Theater in Tryon. They are always jabbing at each other with comments like "you're almost chipper today. Why are you in such a good mood? Did you run over a small child or something?"
Ben Chumley directed this heartwarming/heartbreaking show, and the ladies in the cast become one with their roles, building relationships with each other that reflect those in the narrative.
Sunday seats are already sold out, but the show is gearing up again on Thursday night for the last weekend run, May 14-17. Visit www.tltinfo.org, or call 828-859-2466 to reserve your seats.
