If you have a Ring, Echo, or any other Amazon connected device, you have until June 8 to opt out out of Amazon Sidewalk before it goes live...a program that shares bandwidth between neighbors, which of course could lead to security issues!

Unless you specifically tell it not to, Amazon will automatically enroll you in Sidewalk, which—it’s easy to imagine—could lead to some potentially unwanted privacy and security issues down the road.

This is why you MUST use 2-factor authentication for Facebook, email, and/or any other account that allows it. Also create strong passwords that are unique to every site (I've been bad about reusing passwords, but working on changing them all).

 Yahoo says the personal information in 500 million accounts was stolen in a massive security breakdown. The breach disclosed Thursday, the latest setback for the beleaguered internet company, dates back to late 2014.

These are very good tips to take note of!!

You probably don't want to share make/model of your first car, what street you grew up on, and several other "personal" tidbits of information that are frequently used as security question answers!

It doesn't take a cyber-security expect to know that you shouldn't share your email password or Social Security number on Facebook.

Security reminder - delete/remove any FB apps that you don't use. Go in your settings and check - you might be surprised at how many things actually have access to your account information! Even I just went in and deleted about 20 things that had access to my account that I didn't even know about! Click on the gear in the upper right hand corner of FB, then click on "settings". On the left side, click on "apps", and then remove any app that you don't use, or don't want to have access to your account information. This helps keep your information a little more private.

At least once a month, some friend or family member asks me how to recover data from a failed hard drive. I help them as best I can, but in my head, my answer is always the same: "go back in time and back up your computer like you know you should've."

Friends - With the new Graphic Search FB is rolling out, yet another claim is going around that you have to change each of your friends' FB settings to insure THEIR privacy. This is FALSE! Hovering over their name & unchecking posts, pictures, etc, will not stop these things from being posted, it will only stop them from appearing on YOUR wall!! So doing this will limit what YOU see from your friends, not help your friends privacy!

What you CAN do to help insure your privacy & that of your friends is to stop using the "Friends of Friends" setting under privacy. Use only FRIENDS, and this will not allow your posts to be seen by anyone other than just your friends (not their friends, also, unless you are friends with them). If everyone did this, no one would be seeing information posted to people's walls that they don't even know.
