The Corazón de Trinidad Creative District, in collaboration with the Women’s Caucus for Art Colorado Chapter (WCACO), will present “Mountains, Plains, and Canyons,” from June 21 to July 28. An exhibition spotlighting the artistic talents of women and those identifying as women, “Mountains, Plains and Canyons” will celebrate their unique perspectives inspired by the diverse landscapes of southeastern Colorado and northeastern New Mexico.

Artists wishing to participate in the exhibition have until May 24 to enter their work attrinidadcreativedistrict.org/mountains-plains-canyons.

The opening reception for the event will be at 6 p.m. June 21 at the Commons @ Space to Create, 218 W. Main St., Trinidad.

Juried by Gundega Stevens and Abigail Kreuser, owners of Auric Gallery in Colorado Springs, this exhibition promises to showcase a dynamic array of artworks reflecting the rich tapestry of the region’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

In addition to the captivating artworks on display, the exhibition will feature nine traveling murals painted by WCACO artists Celebrating Colorado Women Artists and The 6,000 Circles Project.

The inspiration for The 6,000 Circles Project draws from the innovative work of Yayoi Kusama’s Obliteration Room, inviting visitors to engage with the installation by contributing their own circle stickers, creating a dynamic and evolving artistic dialogue. This collaborative endeavor invites participation from women worldwide, celebrating the essence of femininity through an interactive installation of circles representing diverse interpretations of the feminine experience.

The mission of the Corazón de Trinidad (Heart of Trinidad) Creative District is to support artists and entrepreneurs through creative initiatives that economically benefit the community, while continually honoring Trinidad’s history. The district collaborate with local organizations, businesses, government entities, and individuals on an ongoing basis to facilitate creative projects and events.

Located in the heart of historic Trinidad, the Corazón de Trinidad Creative District was awarded emerging Creative District status in 2012 and full state certification in 2013. The Creative District became a 501(c)(3) charitable organization in 2016.

The Commons @ Space to Create, managed by the Corazón de Trinidad Creative District, offers 20,000 square feet of open space for rent and numerous amenities for arts, community, conference, and meetings. It houses the majority of the district’s exhibits and events.

WCACO is proud to co-produce “Mountains, Plains & Canyons.” The exhibit is a continuation of the WCACO’s ambitious, long-running series of art exhibitions staged throughout Colorado. There are also several exhibits already planned for 2024 and 2025 in the greater Denver area.

In addition to providing opportunities for its members to display their art, the WCACO strives to create community through art, education, and social activism. The WCACO is committed to:

recognizing the contributions of women in the arts
providing women with leadership opportunities and professional development
expanding networking and exhibition opportunities for women
supporting local, national, and global art activism
advocating for equity in the arts for all.
WCACO also offers its unique traveling mural show of portraits of Colorado women artists for display in galleries and public spaces. Learn more information about the women artists represented on the murals: https://www.wcaco.org/copy-of-honoring-our-members-1
