Dolly Parton, the patron saint of country music, also wrote a musical. "9 to 5" will be playing at Old Town Playhouse. Ellie Katz sits down with the play's director.

A fun fact about our Special Event being held at Milliken Auditorium in October - H***y Tonk Laundry includes a take on the song "Why'd You Come in Here Lookin' Like That?", originally written and recorded by Dolly Parton! And, the name of the laundromat in the play is the Wishy Washy Washateria - possibly a nod to the place where Dolly met her husband Carl - at the Wishy Washy Laundromat!

Congratulations to the cast of the upcoming Studio Theatre production of "Next Fall".

Two men in a committed relationship with a twist - Luke is devoutly religious and Adam, an atheist. The play revolves around their five-year relationship and how they make it work despite their differences.

Performances November 6 to 14, 2026.

**Audition Alert**
Open auditions for the musical Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be held September 14 & 15 at 7 pm in the lower level of Old Town Playhouse, located at 148 E Eighth St, Traverse City, MI. Performances of the show will be December 4 - 19, 2026.

Youth ages 8 and over and adults of all ages are encouraged to attend one night of auditions.

**Audition Reminder**

Auditions for our Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) troupe will be held at 7 pm 8/31 & 9/1 at the Grand Traverse Mall.

Our TYA is the educational arm of OTP, and has been producing small TYA shows for 3 years, and we are ready to expand our troupe of performers with the wonderfully exciting Shrek the Musical TYA! First performance is 10/9 at the Milliken Auditorium.

Daytime availability for performances is required, open to ages 18+.

We've heard the news and we are all so sad. Dolly Parton was a force of nature and an inspiration to so many. Her songs are the soundtrack of so many memories, and she will be missed.

Auditions are TOMORROW (and Tuesday)

Open auditions for our first Studio Theatre show of the season, Next Fall, will take place at 7 pm on August 24 & 25 at Old Town Playhouse (148 E Eighth St, Traverse City, MI). Performances are November 6 - 14, 2026. Actors 18+ invited to attend - no experience necessary!

Synopsis: A witty and provocative look at faith, commitment and unconditional love. While the play's central story focuses on the five-year relationship between Adam and Luke, Next Fall goes beyond a typical love story. Luke is devoutly religious and Adam, an atheist. This timely and compelling play forces us all to examine what it means to "believe" and what it might cost us not to.
