TRYST is a new international art fair for artist-run-spaces and collectives as well as an international conference addressing the needs and future of global exchange for artist-run spaces, collectives, and organizations. A Torrance Art Museum (TAM) project, TRYST addresses the need for opportunities that foster artistic exchange between grass-roots artist organizations worldwide. This art fair will introduce international artists to Los Angeles, a leading center for contemporary art. Connecting artists to the art-savvy Los Angeles audience, the LA arts scene, and to one another allows unlimited networking opportunities in which artists can engage with other participants and develop further international exchanges. Talks and performances will be included in the program, as well as social events for participants. This will be the second edition of TRYST.

STATEMENT:
Previously undetectable by the human eye, microbial life is rendered visible by the presence of pure nutrients. The fruiting colony sprawls across the unborn, uniting them. This connection is created by the encapsulation of a certain place in time within a pocket of space: a neural nesting. The fungi spreading across the clutch of egg-like forms symbolizes the nurture of a network that instills knowledge within us before genesis. As we take notice of our shared geometrical rhythms, psychological patterns, and origin stories it reveals a rich philosophy of interconnectivity across all matter/life. This communion of similarities creates dense webs of data that are observable in every discipline.

Go Figure – NOW! is an exhibition that celebrates a group of contemporary artists that use the human figure to communicate observations of the world we currently live in with their unique voices and visual expressions. Celebrating joy, conflict, struggle, urgency and survival, their work is a crucial glimpse of life in 2024 communicated through the human body and lived experience.
