We never see how intertwined our lives are with the Filipino Martial Art we practice until months in, when the connections and applications become clearer through individual exploration.

These are 3 ways Kali may have started to affect your daily life:

1. Navigating Large Crowds
There’s nothing like some ambidextrous, fluid footwork to allow someone to seamlessly move through or around people to escape crowds, or affect the right amount of leverage to exit unharmed.
Application: Coachella mosh pits

2. Faster Reflexes
You may get the feeling that you’ve developed a certain Spidey-sense. Seeing things out of the corner of your eye so you can respond earlier (which is often mistaken for faster). Close quarter combat trains small twitch muscles which are key in scenarios requiring fast reaction times.
Application: Actually being able to smack a fly bare-handed.

3. Using you legs to lift or lower
There’s almost nothing more characteristic/iconic than the classic FMA low stance. Grounded but flexible.
