January 7th
Albert Bierstadt’s birthday (1830-1902)
He was a painter of the American West. He is closely associated with the Hudson River School (with Thomas Cole, Asher Durand, Frederic Church, and Thomas Moran).

In 1859, he traveled on an expedition to build a new road where he completed his first landscape paintings of the American West.

He was renowned for monumental, idealized views of the Rocky Mountains, Yosemite, and the Sierra Nevada, often painted on enormous canvases. His works emphasized:
• Dramatic light and glowing skies
• Vast scale and grandeur
• A romantic, almost mythic vision of the American wilderness.

January 28th
Jackson Po***ck’s birthday (1912-1956)

The artist was a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. He was widely noticed for his "drip technique" of pouring or splashing liquid household paint onto a horizontal surface, enabling him to view and paint his canvases from all angles. It was called action painting, since he covered the entire canvas and used the force of his whole body to paint, often in a frenetic dancing style. This extreme form of abstraction divided critics: some praised the immediacy of the creation, while others derided the random effect.

Paul Jackson Po***ck, born on January 28, 1912, is one of the artists, that leaves the deepest mark in abstract expressionist art in the 20th century. He deve...

British guitarist Ron Wood joined the ROLLING STONES.
Ronnie Wood first found fame as bassist in the original lineup of the Jeff Beck Group. Then in the early 1970s he distinguished himself as the lead, slide, and pedal steel guitarist for The Faces and Rod Stewart, with whom he played on The Rod Stewart Album, Every Picture Tells a Story, and other classic LPs.

Wood’s amplified lead guitar sound is one of the most distinctive in all British rock and roll – sure-handed, heartfelt, and scrappy, all at the same time, rooted in prewar American country blues and postwar Chicago blues.

He may be known as a legendary musician and member of the Rolling Stones, but Ronnie's art cements his reputation as one of the 21st century's most talked-about contemporary artists.

Ronnie Wood introduces his new rolling exhibition Raw Instinct opening on 12th April 2013 at Castle Fine Art Gallery, 24 Bruton Street, London.
