I have done a lot of thinking this year. Looking inward on myself about the 250th birthday of the USA and I have determined that I am still celebrating the United States this year while I am shooting Fireworks.

I have to acknowledge that the way our ancestors came here was not in good faith as we were taught.
Colonizing, smallpox blankets, etc., and that's just the bare minimum of what all happened. I also understand that I didn't have anytning to do with that as I live 300+ years after that all happened. However, I as a white male, am absolutely reaping the benefits of a system and country that was built on terrible things.

So don't misunderstand. My celebration this year is specifically for this country's 250th birthday and independence from England, not how we drove out/killed natives and colonized their land.

I still believe in what the United States can/should be. We are to be a melting pot. A nation where people of all colors, nationalites, ages, sexes, and orientations are free to worship who they want to worship. Live how they want to live, and love who/how they want to love.

Unfortunately, we just aren't a representation of that ideal right now. Racism, hate, bullying, shaming, war, and persecution, are the reigning behaviors in many ways right now as some people are emboldened to behave that way by the leadership (or lack there of) in and surrounding the White House. So this 250th celebration is somber. Yet I want to go into this with hope.

Vote for human rights, women's rights and true morality.
Be strong.
We can and we will survive this.
I love this country.
I do not love our current government.
