Great Spaces Music & Arts Series

Great Spaces Music & Arts Series Many noteworthy music events are offered in the region, but none in such a great space as Grace Cathedral in Topeka, KS.

Since 2003, GREAT SPACES Music & Arts Series has showcased some of the finest regional, national, and international performers and visual artists at Grace Cathedral in Topeka, Kansas. With its soaring height, stained-glass windows, native stonework and fabulous acoustics, the Cathedral building itself becomes a part of every performance and transforms those who perform here to an aesthetic level g

reater than they might achieve on their own. Artists are chosen who appreciate performing in a sacred space. Ultimately, the creativity and beauty offered during concerts is a showcase of the beauty of mankind which is God’s creation. Artists are local, regional, national and even international. They are names you will recognize and names that will be new to you, but they are all artists whom you will indeed appreciate. We feature organ and piano recitals, large and small choral ensembles, chamber orchestras and instrumentalists, brass ensembles, jazz groups and more. It is a series that is diverse, yet familiar. Concerts are usually about one hour in length. By asking performers to condense their programs to a more manageable length, you will experience their best. Many concerts also include a post-concert reception where you can enjoy a treat and spend time meeting with the performers and your friends and take some more time to explore the Cathedral. When available, performers’ CDs are also offered for sale following their concerts.

Our Cloister Gallery artist for the month of August is our very own Kitty Fapp! Even as a young child in elementary school she loved nature and all of its beauty. Trees, grass, sky, water, and even dirt fascinated her in her artwork. On display in the gallery is a series of Kitty's artwork featuring the Flint Hills of Kansas.

Kitty has a BFA degree from Saint Mary University with an emphasis in pastels and oil painting. Although she decided to go into library science as a profession, it didn’t stop her from creating art. Her paintings are primarily consignment due to her busy schedule teaching, volunteering for the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas and the Canterbury Houses at Kansas State University and Kansas University.
