On this past Misericordias Domini Sunday, we gathered for our spring recital with over 90 in attendance and with 20 performers for piano and violin. It was a wonderful program with a variety of beautiful music that included classical pieces and hymnody. “One thing’s needful; Lord this treasure Teach me highly to regard…This one thing is needful; all others are vain—I count all but loss that I Christ may obtain!” (LSB 536)

What makes a music academy at a church so unique? Here are a few reasons:
1) Jesus is our priceless treasure, our true joy, our one foundation, our salvation. Our music is a gift that reflects the truth and beauty found in Him.
2) We supplement hymnody with our lesson books that is deeply rooted in our Lutheran confessions and musical heritage.
3) Our teachers confess this faith in their lives and within the lessons as they talk about the theology behind the hymnody that students are learning.
4) Our students share their gift of music by playing in the worship services and in the community.

We look forward to our spring recital on Sunday, April 19 at 4:00 p.m. and upcoming opportunities for the students to play in church!

Less than a month away until our students will perform their works of musical art that they have been working hard in their lessons and practice sessions at home.

You are welcome to join us for the recital in support of this wonderful growth in music in service to others!

Enjoy this photo collection of our music camp this past week, packed with Bible lessons about the Holy Spirit, Pentecost-themed music with instruments, music games, percussion, colorful snacks, and other activities. Many thanks to Dave Bartels who demonstrated the trumpet and taught them how to play!

A blessed Advent and Christmas from our young musicians! During the past week they performed in our recital, at a nursing home, and at our children’s service. We thank God for our wonderful teachers and parents who support this gift of music in the home and church.

One of our students played “Behold a Host” during the distribution at the Feast of All Saints tonight. A wonderful way to remember all the saints here and in eternity—through this precious gift of music!

Two of our teachers led a week-long music camp with the theme “Built on the Rock.” They learned various hymns, psalms, and Scripture verses that centered around the Church who is built on Christ. Each camper learned the hymn “Glory Be to Jesus” on the piano (and organ) at different levels, thanks to the arrangements provided by David’s Harp. In addition to enjoying other games, crafts, and instruments, they also observed church architecture, art, and acoustics at various places in Topeka.
