John’s Music Academy provides music instruction through private studio lessons for piano, organ, trumpet, and violin within a Christian atmosphere and in accordance with the rich heritage of sacred music that serves the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Last week was filled with lots of music, singing, crafts, and games centered around the theme of the Reformation. They especially loved pinning the nail on the 95 Theses! We sang hymns that proclaim and teach the faith, such as “A Mighty Fortress,” “Salvation Unto Us Has Come,” and “Dear Christians, One and All Rejoice,” all while learning about the Biblical truth of justification by grace through faith on account of Christ.

On this past Misericordias Domini Sunday, we gathered for our spring recital with over 90 in attendance and with 20 performers for piano and violin. It was a wonderful program with a variety of beautiful music that included classical pieces and hymnody. “One thing’s needful; Lord this treasure Teach me highly to regard…This one thing is needful; all others are vain—I count all but loss that I Christ may obtain!” (LSB 536)

What makes a music academy at a church so unique? Here are a few reasons:
1) Jesus is our priceless treasure, our true joy, our one foundation, our salvation. Our music is a gift that reflects the truth and beauty found in Him.
2) We supplement hymnody with our lesson books that is deeply rooted in our Lutheran confessions and musical heritage.
3) Our teachers confess this faith in their lives and within the lessons as they talk about the theology behind the hymnody that students are learning.
4) Our students share their gift of music by playing in the worship services and in the community.

We look forward to our spring recital on Sunday, April 19 at 4:00 p.m. and upcoming opportunities for the students to play in church!

This past Sunday these young musicians performed a wonderful recital, which included arrangements of Advent and Christmas hymns, which they also played for various church services this week. Soli Deo Gloria!

Less than a month away until our students will perform their works of musical art that they have been working hard in their lessons and practice sessions at home.

Join us this Sunday for a recital by our young musicians! We will recognize our senior violinist as she graduates this year.

A blessed Advent and Christmas from our young musicians! During the past week they performed in our recital, at a nursing home, and at our children’s service. We thank God for our wonderful teachers and parents who support this gift of music in the home and church.

One of our students played “Behold a Host” during the distribution at the Feast of All Saints tonight. A wonderful way to remember all the saints here and in eternity—through this precious gift of music!
