CoRE - Constructs of Ritual Evolution

CoRE - Constructs of Ritual Evolution By pushing our own boundaries in life and art, we inspire others to explore their own.

Chapter locations in: Los Angeles and Oakland/SF, CA Sponsored by: H2Ocean, Black Sheep Hooks, Skin Mechanics Steelworks, ISNeedles, Anatometal, Trick Concepts It is our intent to create original and physically demanding works of theatre by blending the practice of performance art with extreme rituals both modern and ancient. We in CoRE have suspended our own concept of physical limitation, pier

ced the heart of our fears, and transcended the boundaries of social convention in order to further the understanding of the corporeal and spiritual being. Ritualistic acts combined with traditional performance art and theatre provide us with a new outlet for artistic expression that enables the audience to join us on our emotional journey.

We had the honor of having a display at the “Perforated Body: an Exploration of Piercing in Performance” exhibit, hosted by the Body Piercing Archive, at the Association of Professional Piercers (APP) conference in Las Vegas.
I (Steve) hosted a presentation including Lukas Zpira, Allen Falkner, Ron Athey, and Divinity P Fudge.

Passing along a message from the Association of Professional Piercers:

Body piercing and performance art go hand in hand. This year at our annual Conference we are very excited to highlight some amazing Performance Artists such as Dr. Dominic Johnson (Associate Professor) in Performance and Visual Culture in the School of English and Drama, at Queen Mary University of London. Ron Athey, a visiting lecturer at Roski School/USC, who teaches a seminar on the history of california-centric countercultures, and periodically facilitates immersive performance art workshops. Lukas Zpira, a body modification artist, nomadic performer, documentor of the contemporary fringes and one of the major figures of the contemporary underground, as well as Darryl Carlton, Allen Falkner and Steve Joyner.

The Point; Journal of Body Piercing wants to highlight as many performance artists from within the body modification industry or who use body modification in their performances. This means we want to hear from you!

Are you a Performance Artist?

Do you know someone that is a Performance Artist that we need to know about?

Have you particularly inspired by a Performance Artist or Performance group since becoming a body piercer?

Is you answered yes to any of these then we would love for you to submit an article for our next, issues of The Point; Journal of Body Piercing. Your submission should be between 400-1000 words of original work. It should be accompanied by 3-5 high definition photographs (with photo credits provided) which you have permissions for. Deadline for submissions is May 5, 2018. Submissions may be edited, printed in whole or portion; submission does not guarantee publication. Please send submissions to [email protected]

I am happy to answer any and all questions anyone has!!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Oakland, the families, and friends who are suffering at this time over the tragic fire that took so many from our communities last Friday.
We just confirmed one of our family members unfortunately perished. Our loving friend and Sound Tech, Barrett Clark, will be missed and never forgotten.
