One of my favorite DJ moments happened this past Saturday night, and I wanted to share.
During the speeches, the father of the bride mentioned that his daughter absolutely loves The Phantom of the Opera. I personally know this amazing broadway show so, I made a mental note.
After the cake cutting, instead of jumping right into the next song, I played “All I Ask of You.” The bride’s face lit up the moment she recognized it. It wasn’t something we had planned—it was simply listening, paying attention, and creating a personal moment she’ll remember. The couple was able to share one more unexpected, special slow dance together.
A little advice for my fellow DJs: Listen to the speeches. They’re more than just a formality. Families often share stories, favorite songs, inside jokes, and meaningful memories that can help you create unforgettable moments. Sometimes the best song choice isn’t on the timeline—it’s hidden in the words people are saying.
Experiences like this remind me why I love being a wedding DJ. Anyone can play music, but creating moments like these is what truly sets a great DJ apart.
