Still working on this painting… slowly but surely. 🎨
Life has been BUSY lately, and sometimes finding time to sit down and paint is harder than I’d like. But I’m trying to remind myself that it doesn’t have to be finished all at once.
A little bit here, a little bit there, and eventually it becomes a painting. 🧡
So for now, I’m just enjoying the process and squeezing in painting time whenever I can.

Somehow I pulled off an EPIC Sweet 16 murder mystery masquerade for my daughter! 🖤🎭🔪

I may have spent way too many hours making invitations, character cards, clues, props, decorations, and all the little details… but seeing it all come together was SO worth it.
I love getting to use my art and creativity for things other than just painting. And apparently I can’t just throw a birthday party when I could turn it into an entire murder mystery. 😂
The kids got dressed up, played their characters, searched for clues, accused each other, and had an absolute blast.
I’d say the murder was a success. 😉🖤

Back to work… and I FINALLY have a classroom with a sink again! 🙌🎨
I really do love having a classroom, but man… I am SO tired of moving. 😂 I’ve moved 8 times in the last 4 years. Last summer alone I moved THREE times! Onto a cart, then into a classroom a couple weeks before school started, and then back onto a cart just a couple days before school started. 🤦‍♀️
So here’s hoping I get to stay in this spot for a while! 🤞
Now I’ve got a lot of work to do turning this space into a cute, fun art room for these kiddos. Art starts in a couple weeks, so I better get busy! 🎨✂️🖍️

And here we go… the first brushstroke. 🎨
There’s always that little moment of hesitation before I put paint on a brand-new canvas. The grid is done, everything is where it’s supposed to be, and now there’s no going back. 😂
Time to see if I can turn all those little lines into an actual painting.

One unexpected benefit of having cavernous malformations is that it has opened up opportunities I probably never would have found otherwise. 🧡
One of those opportunities is the Rare Artist Contest, and I decided to enter my tiger painting.
I started this painting shortly after my hospital stay for a brain bleed. At the time, I had no idea where that painting would end up or how much it would come to mean to me. I almost gave up on it, but I kept going. Looking back, the little imperfections in that tiger felt pretty fitting for where I was at the time — a little bruised and roughed up, but still standing. 🐅🧡
So getting to enter it in a contest celebrating artists living with rare diseases feels pretty special.

Before I can start painting, I have to get the grid on there. 😂 I use a grid to make sure everything ends up where it’s supposed to be, especially when I’m working from a reference photo.
And today I’m using my grandma’s old yardstick. 🧡 It makes me happy getting to use something of hers while I work.
Now that the grid is done, I can finally start painting. 🎨

Is there anything better than peeling the plastic off a brand-new canvas? 😂
It’s one of my favorite parts of starting a new painting. A completely blank canvas full of possibilities.

I've been a little quiet lately, and there's a reason for that. 😊
For the past few months, I've been pouring my heart into something completely new. It's definitely stretched me as an artist and taken me way outside my comfort zone, but it's all for something that's important to me.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything falls into place because I'd love to share the whole story with you. Until then, here's just a little glimpse of what I've been working on. ❤️

There's something kind of special about vacation slowing you down. ❤️ I packed my sketchbook thinking I'd start something new, but instead I found an old colored pencil drawing tucked between the pages that I'd completely forgotten about. It was only half finished.

So I've been spending little pockets of quiet time bringing it back to life. Sometimes all a piece needs is a little time... and maybe a vacation. 🥰

Sometimes the best thing you can do is step away for a few days.
Life has been busy, and I didn't realize how much I needed a little break until we got here. Fresh air, time with my family, and a slower pace have been so good for my soul. It's amazing what a little breathing room can do for your creativity.
I'm looking forward to getting back to the studio with fresh eyes... but for now, I'm just soaking this in. ❤️
