NRTG is taking an exciting and important step toward purchasing the beautiful theatre we have called home for the past 16 years. Our offer on the building has been accepted. That is a major milestone, even though there are still many steps ahead before the deal is complete. The most important thing is this: we are on our way.
We all love this beautiful theatre of ours, and we want to continue to come see shows here for years to come. That is why NRTG is working so hard at securing this venue; so our future here is secure.
This could become a new chapter in NRTG's history. If the purchase comes to fruition, we will become building owners for the first time in 41 years. Our vision includes welcoming other nonprofit tenants, offering rehearsal and performance space to local artists, and creating a second performance space inside the venue. We want the Ellicott Creek Playhouse to be more than a theatre we use for our own productions—we want it to be a lively destination where something creative is always happening.
To make this vision sustainable, we will need to increase revenue and take full advantage of every fundraising opportunity. Owning a building will bring new responsibilities, including maintenance, utilities, upgrades, and a mortgage. We have plans to develop new revenue streams over time, but right now our most important task is to put the strongest possible financial foundation in place.
Right now, we need to raise as much capital as we can. As of this writing, we have received more than $90,000 in pledges toward the purchase of the building. That is a strong start, but we need to keep pledges and other fundraising dollars coming in. The funds we raise now will help set us up for success when we own the building.
