3 Things You Didn’t Know About Bone Tomahawk (2015)

1. Direct homage to Pet Sematary (1989)
🇮🇹 Il film rende un chiaro omaggio all’iconica immagine del “cimitero indiano” resa celebre da Pet Sematary, riprendendo l’idea di un territorio maledetto e proibito. (nel post trovi le immagini!)

2. Same cave as Iron Man (2008)
🇮🇹La caverna in cui Tony Stark viene tenuto prigioniero è la stessa utilizzata come tana dei trogloditi in Bone Tomahawk. Un collegamento sorprendente tra due mondi opposti. (nel post trovi le immagini!)

3. Thematic parallel with Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
🇮🇹Entrambi i film mettono in luce una forma brutale di critica sociale: la maternità come territorio di dominio e il corpo femminile ridotto a oggetto da controllare.
In Bone Tomahawk questo assume una forma fisica, primordiale e grottesca; in Mad Max diventa sistemico e ritualizzato, ma il messaggio di fondo rimane lo stesso.

The infamous shrimp scene wasn’t just about disgust, it became a symbol of an industry that chews up its stars and spits them out. 🩸

Some even see shrimp as the perfect metaphor for those who keep moving backward… a disturbing reflection of power and control.

🍤 Fun fact: actually ate 2 kilos of shrimp (5 pounds) while shooting this scene. Let that sink in.

Zach Cregger ha confessato di essere stato inconsciamente segnato dalla foto inquietante della “Napalm Girl” in Vietnam.
Quelle braccia tese, paralizzate dal terrore… gli sono rimaste impresse per sempre.
E nel film diventano un movimento che ti striscia dentro la pelle, fino a farti gelare il sangue 🩸

Weapons (2025) directed by Zach Cregger

Yes, yes, you already know the plot. But come on, I wouldn’t be a “real” reviewer (and I’m not) if I didn’t start with it: in Maybrook, 17 kids vanish at exactly 2:17 a.m., all from the same class. Only one survives, broken but alive. The town collapses under fear, paranoia, and useless adults. Done. Happy now?

Now, the point. Everyone praises the craft and multiple POVs (and yes, they’re brilliant). But the sting of Weapons is not how it’s told, but why. Perspective is the real weapon: everyone feels central, until the camera shifts and suddenly nothing is what it seemed.

⚠️ SPOILER ALERT ⚠️
The teacher branded a witch? Just another victim.
The frail aunt? The real witch.
The “wise” fling? A coward.
The bully-dad? Kind of a hero.
No saints, no demons. Except one: the Villain.
Creepy at first sight, tragicomic in the last.

The heart? The children, pure souls in a poisoned society. Magic? Forget mysticism. It’s psychological manipulation, the deadliest weapon of all.

Some comic relief? Meh. It kills the tension. But Cregger’s staging, foreground lit while the background screams something’s coming and then… nothing and it is scarier than any monster. Still, the 3 jump scares are brutal!

And then there’s 2:17. Interpretations abound: a nod to Room 217 in King’s The Shining (the book, not Kubrick’s 237). Or the 217–213 vote on banning assault-style weapons (and Archer’s dream weapon matches that model). Others see Parkland, where 17 lives were lost (same weapon). Some even say it’s personal (there is story about the director...).

Would I have preferred a different ending? Yes, the “kid-turned-sorcerer” twist felt messy. But maybe that’s the point: victims becoming manipulators in a cycle that never ends.

Anyway, Weapons is sharp, terrifying, sometimes hilarious, and deeply human. Perspective is everything.

SPEAK NO EVIL (2022)

🇮🇹 Il finale originale prevedeva che altre persone venissero giustiziate con metodologie diverse. E su questo non abbiamo alcuna informazione anche se la parte di t0rtura é sempre di forte interesse, soprattutto in questa pagina. Ho pensato a quelle usate nel medioevo e sarebbe stato un finale davvero magistrale…
Comunque tralasciando i se e i ma, pare che ci sarebbero dovute essere altre 30 persone di case diverse anche loro con ospiti che avevano pianificato di far giustiziare, come una setta.
Le complicazioni con le riprese di così tante comparse e la facilità nella semplificazione della trama hanno costretto però a cambiare il finale solo una settimana prima delle riprese, con l’esecuzione come vediamo nella versione definitiva della sola coppia principale.

Il regista ha anche provato a scrivere alcuni finali alternativi, ma alla fine non ha funzionato nulla, perché ognuno di essi riproponeva un “film Netflix in cui tutto è spiegato”.

La spiegazione del finale?
Partirei dalla citazione più importante
“Bjørn: Perché lo fai? - Patrick: Perché me lo hai lasciato fare”
Una setta che semplicemente uccide sulla base di questa regola.
