Mother’s Day is all about spoiling the Mommas, and my husband knows me so well. This weekend’s “gift” was pulling the lakeside cottage kitchen together — and for a Momma who loves to cook, creating a well‑stocked kitchen is my happy place. I tend to challenge myself to make real home‑cooked meals up here some nights, so we make sure our renters have every little amenity they might need. Even sharing our Friday’s Up North exclusive recipe book with all my favorite go‑to’s. While we were finishing up the kitchen, the kids were busy building the coolest giant box fort, and the cabin was getting its own cozy facelift with new furniture and fresh mattresses. All these little touches make the cabin feel even more cozy, warm, and welcoming — the kind of place where not only this Momma, but all Mommas can slow down, breathe a little deeper, and truly unwind. 💛🌿

Another weekend up north meant more cottage projects, of course. The kids and I even had to break in the bedrooms this time thanks to a last‑minute booking at the cabin — totally worth it. While we’ve been putting in long hours getting the cottage ready for everyone, we still start our mornings cozied up with coffee and end our nights around the campfire. Now we finally get to share a few glimpses with you. As sad as it was to cover up the wood and the very committed 70’s carpet, things are already feeling brighter and cozier. Just a few final installs to go.

(Lil Gabe at his first campfire at the end😍) Manson Lake has always been a place where time slows down.
Long before Friday’s Next Door was purchased, this cottage belonged to a family who spent generations here — summers marked by early‑morning fishing, kids learning to swim off the dock, and evenings gathered around the fire. Their memories are woven into every board and beam, and when the cottage was passed to us, we felt like we were stepping into a story already rich with love and tradition.

Now, it’s become part of our story too. The lake has a way of gathering people — of softening the pace, deepening conversations, and bringing families closer without trying. Our days here have been filled with sunlight on the water, paddleboard adventures, slow coffee on the deck, and the kind of laughter that only happens when you’re truly away from everything else.

The cottage isn’t just a place to stay. It’s a place to reconnect, reset, and feel the heritage of Manson Lake — the same magic that’s been cherished for decades.

🌊 Manson Lake is one of those rare lakes that feels both peaceful and alive. Known for its clear water, gentle shoreline, and quiet coves, it’s long been a favorite spot for families who return year after year. Locals talk about the way the lake changes throughout the day — glass‑calm mornings perfect for paddling, warm afternoons made for swimming, and evenings when the sky reflects across the water like a painting.

Wildlife is part of the charm here too. Loons calling at dusk, eagles circling overhead, fish jumping near the dock — it’s the kind of natural soundtrack that settles you without you even noticing. Whether you’re out exploring or simply sitting still, Manson Lake has a way of grounding you, reminding you to breathe a little deeper and enjoy the moment you’re in.

For generations, this lake has been a place where memories are made. We’re grateful for such special neighbors to include us in the heritage of the cottage. We can’t wait to be apart of all the amazing memories to come.
