Our Story
The Toledo Repertoire Theatre was established on June 8, 1933. Our first production was Henrik Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House”, performed at Collingwood Presbyterian Church in what is now the Old West End. With that first production, The Rep became Toledo’s first community theatre. The Rep moved into its current location at 16 10th Street in 1934 after the building
was renovated.
The 10th Street stage was originally a church belonging to the First Alliance Congregation; it was constructed in 1916. When the church’s membership grew too large, the building was sold to the founding members of The Rep in 1933. In the lobby of The Rep is a beautiful stained glass window that was saved after the first renovation of The Rep (between 1933 & 1934) and was part of the original church.
The Toledo Repertoire Theatre, Toledo’s longest operating community theatre, offers a wide variety of live theatre programming, including classic plays, comedies, dramas, musicals, three spring/summer Young Rep productions for ages 7-19, special events, readings and Toledo’s holiday favorite, “A Christmas Carol”. Our education branch provides educational and theatrical opportunities for both young and old alike! With Young Rep acting, singing, dancing, and technical design classes, workshops, and camps for ages 7-17; and adult acting and technical classes for those ages 18 and older, The Rep has something for everyone!
The Toledo Repertoire Theatre is a vibrant and vital performing arts organization in our area and continues to be a cornerstone of Toledo's artistic traditions. The Rep has a tradition of excellence spanning 87 years, making it 'Toledo's Community Theatre'!
