On Thursday, February 26th at 7pm, the UToledo Symphony Orchestra will showcase the winners of our Concerto Competition. The featured performers are violinist Katie McDonald performing “Violin Concerto No. 1” of Bruch, Mary Olnhausen performing Carl Nielsen’s “Concerto for Flute” and the “Second Piano Concerto” of Shostakovich performed by Andrew Davis. The free concert will be in UT’s Doermann Theatre. Hope to see you there!

On Thursday, November 20th at 7pm, the University of Toledo Symphony Orchestra will perform their final concert of the Fall semester with a program including the Prokofiev’s “Lt. Kije Suite”, the delightful “Tahiti Trot” by Shostakovich and Beethoven’s “Emperor Piano Concerto” (No. 5 in E-flat Major) performed by Dr. Zehao Nicholas Bai! This free concert takes place at Doermann Theatre in University Hall.

On Thursday, October 2nd at 7pm, the University of Toledo Symphony Orchestra will perform their first concert of the Fall semester with a program including the Overture to “Colas Breugnon” by Kabalevsky, the Intermezzo from Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8. This free concert takes place at Doermann Theatre in University Hall.

We are thrilled to welcome our next Director of Choral Activities - Dr. Karen Miskell! Dr. Miskell has years of successful teaching experience at both the secondary and collegiate levels, which will further elevate our outstanding vocal music education and performance programs.

Dr. Miskell holds degrees from the University of Southern California (DMA, 2018), Northern Arizona University (MM, 2013), and the University of Miami (BM, 2005). Dr. Miskell has served for the last nine years as professor and Department Chair of Music at Victor Valley College in Victorville, California. In between her BM and MM degrees, Dr. Miskell taught secondary choral music in the public schools of Las Vegas, Nevada in the Clark County School District. While teaching in Southern California, Dr. Miskell served as President Elect for the Music Association of California Community Colleges in addition to being the 2-year college Representative on the CCDA board, and actively served as a choral clinician, adjudicator, accompanist, and educator throughout the western US. As a native of Ohio, she is thrilled to begin this new chapter at the University of Toledo!

As the culmination of UToledo Summer String Orchestra Workshop, we will be performing music from Bartok, Coleridge-Taylor, Price and Donjuan under the batons of Madeline Damschroder and Norman Damschroder on Wednesday, June 18th. The free concert starts at 7pm in the Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall. We’d love to see you there!

On Thursday, April 24th, The UToledo Symphony Orchestra will perform their final concert of the semester featuring “Kauyumari” by Gabriela Ortiz and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral”. The performance of these fantastic pieces is the culmination of an incredibly successful season with this group of talented young musicians! Please join us at 7:00pm in UT’s Doermann Theatre. Admission is free.

On Thursday, February 27th at 7pm, the UToledo Symphony Orchestra will showcase the winners of our Concerto Competition and the beautiful Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture by Tchaikovsky. Featured are Mary Olnhausen performing Mozart’s “Andante for Flute” and Thomus Maples performing on Xylophone, “Fantasy on Japanese Wood Prints” by Hovhannes. The free concert will be in UT’s Doermann Theatre. See you there!
