When people think of arthritis, they often picture someone much older. Eight months ago, we learned that arthritis doesn’t always look the way people expect.
In what felt like the blink of an eye, our healthy, active teenage daughter, Camilla, went from living life like any other 16-year-old to barely being able to get off the couch. Simple things—walking, writing, climbing the stairs, even getting out of bed—became incredibly difficult. Watching your child hurt and not being able to take that pain away is something no parent is ever prepared for.
Thankfully, after months of testing, therapies, treatments, setbacks, and small victories, she is doing so much better. We are incredibly grateful. But arthritis is something she continues to live with every single day, and we know so many other families are walking a similar road.
This year, my husband has the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream by running the New York City Marathon. What makes it even more meaningful is that he’s running for the Arthritis Foundation —in honor of both Camilla and his mom, who has also battled arthritis.
This marathon is about so much more than 26.2 miles. It’s about strength, perseverance, hope, and helping fund research, support, and advocacy for the millions of people living with arthritis.
If Camilla’s story has ever touched your heart, or if arthritis has impacted someone you love, we would be so grateful for your support. Every donation, no matter the size, helps make a difference.
Thank you for cheering him on as he chases a dream while running for two strong women. ❤️ Donation link in bio. https://events.arthritis.org/participant/427040
