Maine Arts Camp

Maine Arts Camp A small, creative, non competitive, camp community located in Tilton, New Hampshire. www.maineartscamp.com

Incredible programming in the Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Culinary, Writing, Film, Dance, Music, Outdoor Activities, and so much more! Maine Arts Camp (MAC) was created in 2004 with a vision of fostering a nurturing community for bright and creative children and teens ages 9-16. We are located on the beautiful campus of The High Mowing School in Bethlehem, NH. With over 50 activities, we focus o

n the arts--both visual and performing--and we also offer activities including cooking, film making, film photography, creative writing, and outdoor activities such as kayaking/canoeing, hiking and biking. MAC is truly a unique camp, especially when it comes to the personal attention we provide as well as our extensive variety of visual arts offerings. As far as performing arts, we are unique in that we foster a non-competitive environment, which is very important for many children and teens. We have a number of experienced teachers on staff providing high quality instruction, and we limit the number of campers to a maximum of 100, providing personal attention to each one. Give your child a summer to make new friends, learn new and fun skills, grow as a person, and make memories to last a life time at Maine Arts Camp!

It's time for another "Cookn' With Ginny".

This time we're taking inspiration from one of the messiest (and surprising) Evening Activites from last year, DIRT NIGHT!!

Dirt Night Pudding

2 eggs
2 tbsp corn starch
2 cups milk (separated into 1/4 cup and 1 3/4 cup)
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cocoa powder
1/4 tsp salt

Directions:
1. Wash hands with soap and water. Separate the egg yolks by cracking the egg into your hand and letting the whites drip away. Do this over the sink or a small bowl.

2. In the mixing bowl, whisk the 2 egg yolks until they become fluffy and pale yellow, about 2 minutes.

3. Add the corn starch and 1/4 cup milk. Whisk until smooth and set aside.

4. In a pot, combine the sugar, cocoa powder, salt, and remaining milk. Cook over medium heat until bubbles begin forming around the edges but it has not reached a full boil. If you have a thermometer, it should be between 180-190 degrees.

5. Slowly pour the heated milk into the bowl with the egg yolks. Whisk as you pour. This is called "tempering": you want to slowly warm the egg yolks with the hot milk instead of dumping it all in at once. Hot milk can cook the eggs if you go too fast!

6. Once combined, return the mixture to the pot and cook over medium heat. Continue whisking as you cook until it's bubbling and thickened, 5-10 minutes.

7. Pour the pudding into a bowl and cover the top with plastic wrap. It should touch the surface of the pudding. This prevents a skin from forming.

8. Once cool, top/decorate with crushed cookies, gummy worms, fruit, whatever! Re-enact your favorite Dirt Night scenario.

Today is Rick's birthday.

Through our sadness, we remember and celebrate the incredible and unique person he was. He started Maine Arts Camp for kids and teens that didn't have a home in other camps. He created a place for people to be kind, inclusive, and a place for campers to feel welcome and just be themselves. Because of him, MAC is the kind of camp where you can make mistakes and grow, in a safe, caring environment. No judgement, just come as you are and have fun! And that is exactly who Rick was.

Having the vision and understanding to create that 22 years ago is pretty special, and we are all so fortunate that we get to carry on his vision and honor is legacy.

Happy Birthday, Rick, we miss you every day.
