Of all the movies we're showing at the Scare-A-Thon, I'd bet the one you're least likely to have seen is EQUINOX. But this will not do! Call it cheap or amateurish if you will, but it's hard to believe that a group of KIDS could make such a cool, fast-paced, monster-packed and entertaining movie on such tiny budget. And though FX man Dennis Muren would go on to win EIGHT Academy Awards and work on Star Wars, E.T., The Abyss, Jurassic Park and scores of others, he was just 18 years old when he started shooting EQUINOX. This will play in the 5pm slot at this year's Scare-A-Thon, and we do encourage you to see it. Here's a little taste with plenty of monster action.

And just because The Munsters Theme is such a great tune, take a listen to our pals in Los Straitjackets tearing it up at Portland's own Aladdin Theater.

Check out this trailer for 1942's THE GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN! This will play in the 3pm slot at this year's Scare-A-Thon, and I do recommend it. In this one, Lon Chaney, Jr. plays the Monster, and Bela Lugosi returns to one of his greatest roles as the villainous Ygor. TGOF is also a good example of what I call the "Popcorn Era" for the Universal Monsters movies. The films from about 1942 on may not have been as artful as their predecessors. But they were also shorter, fast-paced and hugely entertaining. And, of course, the monsters get a lot of screen time in these movies. So don't miss GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN at the Scare-A-Thon! Here's a peek.

Did you know that BUBBA HO-TEP is playing at this year's Joy Cinema SCARE-A-THON? Well, it is! Bruce Campbell and Ossie Davis star in this cult-classic horror/comedy. As popular as it is, many of its fans have never seen it on the big screen. We'll do our part to fix that! Catch BUBBA HO-TEP in the 7pm slot at this year's SCARE-A-THON. It all happens Saturday, October 24th.
