At Lied Lodge at Arbor Day Farm, executive chef Garrett Kasper is quietly transforming the property’s dining program into one of the region’s most ingredient-driven culinary experiences. After years working in high-pressure kitchens around the country, Kasper arrived at Arbor Day Farm looking for a healthier balance—and found inspiration in the property’s orchards, gardens, and greenhouse. Today, nearly all of the menu at Timbers is made from scratch using ingredients grown on-site, with seasonal produce shaping everything from plated dinners to cider pairings. Kasper’s focus on sustainability, thoughtful sourcing, and kitchen culture is helping redefine what dining at the historic Nebraska City destination can look like.

Every day, every month, every year is a little more progress towards the sculpture trail being a real thing… 🥰

This was a great experience! A real treasure having these young minds at the studio.

A few steps at a time… 44° out this morning and I was in shorts and flip-flops… So hyper focused on putting this altogether. I know it’s going to take some time but I am so looking forward to the final product. (no, I did not intend to have on flip-flops and shorts… Just had my coffee in my hand and thought. “well maybe I can just put a few brick in“😁🤓)

I made these bulk, tip-out bins after I graduated from Colorado State University in 1995. I never had good handles or labels for these bins, and after a long period of sitting dormant, some of the labels were beginning to fall off, and what a mess that would’ve been! So now with my 3-D printer that I recently purchased, I made handles that function as label holders as well. They are standard Avery 8163 labels. I used ChatGPT to help me assemble the information on the labels, including the QR code that will take you to or ChemPub. The labels were printed with a laser printer so that a drop of water is not going to diminish their legibility.

The actual layers of filament delaminated. I’m just of the mind that regardless of the type of material I use and even with adjustments to fusing temperatures, I will not have the kind of strength using this 3-D printing process that will give me consistent results. So for now, I will go back to fabricating something out of stainless steel. Would have been nice to have the process that I can just dream up a thought and have it magically appear the next day. I’m open to input from others!

I have had this 3-D extruder model designed for many, many months now, but not until now did I have the opportunity to print it. I have a new toy in the studio and I’m hoping it will come in handy for printing tools and dies. But there is a little bit of a learning curve to getting things right! Revision #2 printing now… in eight hours I will give it another try. I designed reinforcements and increased fabrication settings for extra strength. I am waiting for some filament that has higher strength properties, but I will see what I can do with this filament for now.
