Conejo Valley Choral Society Appoints New Music and Artistic Director for 2026-2027 Season

Conejo Valley Choral Society (CVCS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Franco Basili as its new Music and Artistic Director, marking an exciting new chapter for one of the region’s premier choral organizations.

Dr. Basili brings a dynamic blend of international experience, academic excellence, and artistic leadership to CVCS. Born and raised in Argentina, he currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choirs at California Lutheran University. He holds a Doctorate in Choral Conducting from the University of Houston, a Master of Music in Choral Pedagogy from Carthage College, and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Choral Conducting and Piano Pedagogy from the Conservatorio de Música “Isaías Orbe” in Tandil, Argentina.

Prior to his work in the United States, Dr. Basili served as Artistic Director of the Chamber Choir of the National University of Mar del Plata, Director of Laprida’s Children Choir, and Assistant Conductor of the Coro Estable de Tandil. Since relocating to the U.S., he has held several distinguished roles, including Rehearsal Conductor for the Houston Symphony Chorus, Choral Conductor Intern with the Grammy Award-winning Houston Chamber Choir, Director of the Chancel Choir at Grace Presbyterian Church in Houston, and Director of the University Chorus at the University of Houston.

“We are profoundly grateful to Maestro Conor Whalen, CVCS Founder and Music & Artistic Director for our first four seasons. His vision, leadership, and tireless dedication has made CVCS such a special organization — one that has brought immense joy to our members and patrons,” said Michael Breitner, President of CVCS.

“For our upcoming 2026-2027 season, we are absolutely thrilled to welcome Dr. Basili to the Conejo Valley Choral Society,” said Breitner. “His artistry, vision, and passion for choral music align perfectly with our mission. The Board of Directors is looking forward to working closely with Dr. Basili to grow CVCS, deepen our partnerships within the Conejo Valley community, and develop a stunning new season of performances of classical choral masterworks."

Under Dr. Basili’s leadership, the organization aims to expand its reach, elevate its performance profile, and continue delivering transformative choral experiences to audiences across the region.
“I am honored to join the Conejo Valley Choral Society and build upon its growing artistic legacy,” said Dr. Basili. “I look forward to collaborating with the talented singers, dedicated board members, and the broader community to create inspiring performances and meaningful musical connections.”

More information about upcoming performances and the 2026–2027 season will be announced in the coming months.

Join the Conejo Valley Choral Society with members of the California Young Artists Symphony for our Fall Masterworks Concert, featuring two deeply moving works that illuminate the beauty and resilience of the human spirit.

🎶 Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna — a modern choral masterpiece that bathes the listener in shimmering light and hope. Composed as a meditation on eternal rest and comfort, its lush harmonies and radiant textures have made it one of the most beloved choral works of our time.

🎵 Felix Mendelssohn’s Psalm 42 — a stirring Romantic-era setting that blends lyrical beauty with symphonic depth. Described by Schumann as “the finest thing Mendelssohn ever wrote,” this work captures longing, faith, and renewal with breathtaking power.
