The Cortland Foundation has extended the deadline for entries to the Cortland Acres Photography Exhibit through Sunday, July 6. So if you put it off or something came up, you have another chance! We want to see the best West Virginia highlands photography that is out there!

Keep in mind this year’s theme, chosen by judge Perry Bennett, “Highlands Unfiltered”. He invites participants to “remove the filters” –both literal and figurative—to showcase the unvarnished experience of the beauty, history and culture of the Allegheny Highlands.

The selected images are displayed in the hallway of the Cortland Acres rehabilitation center, and on a gallery wall in a common area and brighten the environment for a year. After that they are sold to benefit the Cortland Acres Foundation, so your image makes a contribution twice!

To submit entries, go to https://blackwater.cortlandacres.org/. Be sure to read the Entry Rules and Guidelines.

The Cortland Foundation’s 2025 Photo Exhibition is accepting entries through June 30. Don’t miss out!

We are now in the last few days entries in the Cortland Acres Photography Exhibit. You can submit images through the end of this month, Monday, June 30. You don’t need to be a “pro” photographer to participate. Last year’s winners included several who had never entered a photo exhibition before! If you have an image that shows off the scenery, natural subjects, history or culture of the West Virginia highlands, especially if it fits this year's theme of "Changes", let us see it! See the Rules and Guidelines on the entry page for more details.

The Cortland Foundation’s 2025 Photo Exhibition will be open for entries through the end of June!

Continuing a tradition begun several years ago, this year’s judge, Perry Bennett, has chosen a theme to stimulate thinking about images to submit. This year the Exhibit will feature the theme of “Highlands Unfiltered”. Here is Perry’s description of what he has in mind:

"As a society, we are all too caught up in our technology and see/experience each other thru the "filters" of social media, both literally and figuratively. I want to encourage participants to take a step back and "remove that filter" to showcase the REAL experience of the Highlands and Appalachia; to celebrate its natural beauty and honest living, untouched ridges, blooming meadows, foggy hollows, and cultural remnants of the past, celebrating the realness of its people, celebrating its heritage all while looking forward and remaining hopeful for the future."

Use your imagination to apply this theme. We won’t reject any images for not fitting the theme, but the judge will be looking for images that speak to this vision.

Each year the judge chooses a theme of the exhibit, and our judge Frank Ceravalo has chosen "Changes" for this year. He would like to see images that reflect transitions, movement, contrasts or evolutions. This could be changes in time, space, shape, age, light, color, day/night, elevation, weather, seasons, or whatever! These can be images of natural subjects, but representations of human changes are not excluded, so long as they are part of the landscape or represent the cultural character of the area. For all the guidelines for this year's show. go tohttps://blackwater.cortlandacres.org/rules2024.pdf

In 2022 the judge's theme was "Close to Home". Here are two of the selected images from that Exhibit that reflected the theme: "One of a Kind" by June Proctor was chosen for the Hallway, and "A Brank of Home" by Lori Woods was included in the Gallery.
