Search For 10

Search For 10 We sell colorful, hidden-object art prints designed to delight and distract children in waiting rooms I have a B.S.

Hi, I'm Denise Tipka and am the artist/owner of Search For 10. in Elementary Education, but instead of teaching, I was a professional wall muralist when a pediatric dentist asked me to paint a mural to keep his patients distracted while in the dental chair. The teacher in me came out and I painted a big fish tank with 10 hidden toothbrushes in it for them to find. It was such a big hit that I want

ed to help children in waiting rooms everywhere. I painted three different 24"x36"s cenes with hidden toothbrushes, bandages (for pediatricians) and keys (for any place that has children), and made them into prints. Now in waiting rooms, not only are children happily distracted, but their parents are, too!

Post #15 of Search For 10 Art Journey of BarnYard Adventures: "Colored Pencil Rendering"

This 12"x18" colored pencil drawing did what it was supposed to do -- allow me to see necessary changes. Nothing major -- just a few color changes.

Also, can you find a minor drawing change I made? I wanted to add a sense of interest and whimsey!

My next step is to transfer my final drawing to my 24x36 Hardbord, which will be my painting surface. Watch my next post to see this 2-step process.

Post #14 of Search For 10 Art Journey of BarnYard Adventures: "New Week -- New Step -- Value Study"

I completed the final drawing of the 3-layer combination since my last update. The 24"x36" piece was scanned at Federal Express Office, resulting in 3 different sized copies. Using the 6"x9" version, I made a value study that highlighted necessary color adjustments for improved balance.

My next phase involves working with colored pencils. I can't wait!

#13 of Search For 10 Art Journey of BarnYard Adventures. Two Halves Make a Whole!
Post #12 revealed the left side of my sketch page, this post shows the right. The total animal count now stands at 60. Deciding how large to draw the animals got to be a little tricky because I wanted to show perspective if the animals were in the distance. Most of my animal sketches have been enlarged by 25% (thanks to the glory and convenience of a copier) to make viewing them easier. The next task on the agenda involves refining some sketches, particularly the large cow in the pen. The anticipation is building as I gear up to create the final drawing. Exciting times ahead!

#12 of Search For 10 Art Journey of BarnYard Adventures. YeeHaw! It's starting to look like a barnyard! Check out the left half of my sketch page with the animals (mostly) in place, I made a small change in the location of the tractor, and there will be more tweaks coming up. You'll also see my notes to myself on little orange Post-its -- revealing ALL my little secrets! 🤫🎨 Adventures

#11 of Search For 10 Art Journey of BarnYard Adventures. I made some significant changes to my Landscape vellum page drawing this week. I added a creek, removed a gravel road, and made alterations to the pond. This process hightlighted the process of using separate vellum pages to avoid smearing the rest of my drawing with changes and erasure marks. In the corn rows you may notice blank spaces, this is where the barn and silo will stand. Additionally I spent time sketching animals, specifically 7 cows (can you say MOO?!). Stay tuned for my upcoming posts featuring these animals!

#10 of Search For 10 Art Journey of BarnYard Adventures. The Buildings vellum page that has buildings in it (not landscape, nor animals) is completed! I actually already finished the Landscape vellum page as well because I was trying to balance my foreground with my mid-ground and background, and they work off each other. You'll see how in my next post! Coming up: the Landscape vellum page.

#9 of Search For 10 Art Journey of BarnYard Adventures. Take a peek at the left side of my "buildings" vellum page, with barns, silos, and fencing. The barn, a key feature of any farm, takes center stage in my illustration. I can't wait to fill it with animals! Stay tuned for the right side of my buildings vellum page for more farm charm!

#8 of Search For 10 Art Journey of BarnYard Adventures. What do barns and rainforests have in common? The way I draw their scenes for my paintings! I thought Post #7 discussing my drawing on vellum needed a visual example, so here is a video explaining/showing the 3 layers of vellum in my Rainforest RoundUp print. I need to clarify that when you watch the video, please realize the vellum is very transparent; so, when I mention that you do not see my drawing of the vine on the tree, you actually do see it, but you are seeing it THROUGH the vellum. Meanwhile, I have been busy drawing animals -- 7 chickens, 3 chicks and a rooster among others!

#7 of Search For 10 Art Journey. This past week I have drawn the barn, silo, horse barn and considered sizes of the windmill and tractor based on reference photos. The reason you see 3 barns is because I initially draw my subject (building, animal, etc.) on its own piece of vellum paper which is very transparent. This makes it easy to move it around the board, or change its size so I don't have to re-draw it. For buildings or anything where perspective is important, I first draw it on vellum for my 12x18 board because it is easier for me to draw perspective lined up with the horizon line on that size. I then use my photocopier to increase or decrease my sizes of it. See my photo -- my initial barn on the vellum paper (lower left) was for my 12x18 board. I then used my photocopier to make it double the size for my final 24x36 -- but it was too big, so I stayed at the photocopier; then it was too small; then, I found the size that was JUST RIGHT. I felt like Goldilocks.

#6 of Search For 10 Art Journey. HOLY MOLY!! This week I researched and found all my photo references; including, scenery and animals (a super fun tractor will be included!). I even visited my husband's cousin's farm to take photos. I narrowed my research to 54 animal reference photos. I must be crazy! We will see how many make it into the picture -- it will be the vast majority for sure. If you look at the small piece of paper in the middle of my photo, it lists how many of each animal I hope to use, dependent upon room in my picture. My SFT "African Animal Sights" has 41 animals; "Fish Tank Favorites" has 22 fish; and "Rainforest RoundUp" has 35 animals and butterflies. I LOVE a lot of detail so there is more to keep everyone entertained while waiting!
