The collage that started them all. Several years ago, I was teaching at Effingham Junior High. The first project I taught was Collage. Most students HATED it. I also kinda hated it. So I forced myself to make one. At the time, most of my work involved farm animals. I struggled with which paper to use so every piece in here is a sharpie doodled piece of paper. And that love of collage grew and now I can’t stop lol. Most students still are not huge fans of collage, but hopefully they see the possibilities through my own work.

On today’s story time: This was a painting I did of my brother, Scott…..as the king of Scotland. It hung at the Effingham Performance Center for a year and when that show ended, Scott and I had a long discussion about where this piece should hang permanently. We decided to start sneaking it into peoples houses and the only way to have it move on was to take a selfie with the king. Scott’s handsome face has been into over 35 houses and businesses since August. It puts a smile on people’s faces when they see that smug grin we all know and love. (No illegal activity involved, we had an accomplice with each drop off that also resided in the home.)

I decided I should start sharing a little backstory on some of my pieces.
This piece was based off a picture I took in Germany last summer. If you look closely, there are 9 different foods hidden within it. Everything from steak to cheesecake to cobbler to broccoli. Can you find them all?
