One more introduction for the Blue House Creatives! 🕺🏼 These seated and reclining figures were made by Mark Schlicher!

Schlicher is a Nashville,TN-based multimedia artist who explores the human form and human experience through sculpture, drawing, painting and film. A director and cinematographer, his documentary film career spans many decades, with work being shown on the Smithsonian Channel, Lifetime, and on national PBS. He sculpts in terra cotta clay, leaning into the medium’s immediacy, directness and impressionistic possibilities. While he would love to see some of his work enlarged in bronze one day, he embraces creating finished works in ceramic clay that range from sensitive life-size portraits and small figure studies to whimsical vessels such as face pots.

Schlicher says, “Life is rich when approached with openness, curiosity and humor. My process of making embraces this ethos, and I hope it comes through in my work. There is much heaviness in the world, and I have great respect to artists who engage with these deep and difficult themes. That’s not my calling at this time. My figures and portraits aim to celebrate the inherent beauty of each individual. If I elicit a smile or a thoughtful reflection from the viewer, then the piece is successful.”

Meet Anna Wise! Another artist from the Blue House Creatives. 🌟 .studio
Anna Wise’s practice explores the boundary between internal and external landscapes, opening a portal between nostalgia and possibility. She combines portraits with landscapes based on places she’s both visited and imagined, exploring how the environments we move through shape who we are—and how we, in turn, shape them. Using a mix of watercolor, spray paint, pastels, acrylics, and oil, she builds each painting through many glazes and layers of mark-making, where structure and spontaneity meet to tell a story.

As a child, Anna often sought refuge in the woods where she would spend hours listening to music, praying, and dreaming about the future. Nature became her sanctuary, a place where she could let go of others’ expectations and instead begin to rediscover a sense of adventure, hope, and purpose. That early connection to nature continues to shape her work - not just as inspiration, but as metaphor. Her paintings suggest that the “soulscapes” we carry inside us are just as real, wild, and worth exploring as the ones we stand in. Her ongoing series Wild Cartography is for anyone who’s ever felt lost in the chaos during changing seasons of life.

Art Spaces’ Annual Luncheon is more than a gathering—it’s the official announcement and kickoff of our next Cultural Trail honoree and future public sculpture: Congresswoman Virginia E. Jenckes.

A Terre Haute native and the first Indiana woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, Jenckes was a true trailblazer. From managing a 1,300-acre farm to leading flood control efforts along the Wabash River, she turned determination into action, ultimately unseating a long-time incumbent to represent western Indiana in Congress.

Known for her bold leadership and independent spirit, she championed her constituents and made a lasting mark during a pivotal time in our nation’s history. We’re proud to honor her legacy and share her story as the next addition to the Art Spaces Cultural Trail.

Join us for this exciting event - get your tickets for the Luncheon today! https://bit.ly/4e1eXhP

STACKED: The playful art of carefully stacking all your collected treasures.

I love how poetically life seems to play out sometimes. I can’t help but see the symbolism of my “stacked” responsibilities of medical setback in healing and recovery and my literal art series I’ve titled “STACKED”…. The proposal of everything around you is art. The process of accumulation and the random clutter of the little things that make you happy and bring you joy.

There’s treasure and art in everything we do and touch as long as you choose to see it.

The things you collect over time are things that are a reflection of yourself. In a sense, your home decor is symbolic of who you are. YOU are art. Everything in your home that makes you happy, is art.

Every painting you see here is all of my stuff. And it’s art because I say it is.

I will post better pictures of each individual painting soon

You can view my new display at Owensboro Convention center

We’re introducing Amy Krimsier Sterling today! ⭐️ Sterling is a storyteller who creates visual art in a variety of mediums, capturing life’s many elements through printmaking, ceramics, watercolor, oil, and anything else she can get her hands on. Much of Amy’s work is created in the public sphere, whether documenting strangers’ fleeting moments in her sketchbooks or channeling personal daydreams into physical objects created from assorted materials. Her art seeks to change frequencies, and is often focused on capturing natural phenomena such as the colors of light and the movement of water.
As an arts educator in Nashville, Amy finds great joy in passing her own inspiration to others and seeks to help students see things in a way they had not before. While serving as Art Chair on the Board of Friends of Brentwood Library, and three years on the events and exhibition committee of Tennessee Craft MidState Chapter, Amy enjoys getting to know artists and various spaces in which to showcase the arts currently as Metro Parks Centennial Art Gallery manager.

Jennifer C. Pierstorff is our featured artist today from the spring exhibition, Red Rouge Roja! Pierstoff is a mixed media artist whose work celebrates the wild, weird, and wonderfully human. Living with chronic illness since a young age, she has built an art practice rooted in resilience, joy, and transformation. Her Wonky World series emerged from that space of healing and play, where distorted, expressive faces come alive through layers of paint, collage, and mark-making. For this exhibit, Jennifer explores the color red as both a symbol of power and contradiction-love and anger, vitality and warning, strength and fragility. In her portraits, red becomes a heartbeat: bold, unflinching, and full of life. Based in Clarksville, TN, Jennifer is a member of the Downtown Artists Cooperative and the Nashville Artist Guild. Her work has been exhibited nationally in solo and group shows, often inviting viewers to find connection in imperfection and meaning in the beautifully wonky.
