On Sept. 10, explore the shared language of art and sports and how athletic performance can be translated into visual form.

Join us at Katzin Concert Hall for “Art, Athletics, and the Marks We Make,” a special conversation with renowned artist William Wegman, NHL player and visual artist Jacob Trouba and ASU Art Museum Director Miki Garcia.

Then, head to the ASU Art Museum for our Fall Opening Reception, an evening of art, music and community celebrating a new season at the museum.

“Wrought by Fire: Metalwork of the Southwest” seeks to challenge the traditionally male-dominated history of metalworking by highlighting the work of four women artists –– Kim Cridler (United States, b. 1968), Siri Devi Khandavilli (United States, b. India), Wanesia Misquadace (Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, b. 1971), and Agnese Udinotti (United States, b. Greece 1940). This multigenerational grouping of artists lends itself to a rich conversation about training, history, and material concerns. Through diverse alloy-based practices, the exhibition explores connections between the body, nature, labor and regional culture, revealing metalwork as both an artistic and cultural form of transformation.

“Wrought by Fire: Metalwork of the Southwest” is organized by Windgate Curatorial Fellow Sade Moore and made possible by generous funding from Windgate Charitable Foundation. This research was supported by a Craft Research Fund Grant from the Center for Craft. The exhibition is presented in collaboration with a Community of Practice composed of Sandra McClain, metal shop Manager at Phoenix Forge, Leticia Bejarano, Local Jeweler and Co-Owner of Weld-Her and Shanen L. Aranmór, MS, CWI/CWE, Chief Wellness Welder for Weld Like A Girl.

This fall, ASU Art Museum presents “Cross Check: William Wegman and Jacob Trouba,” a collaborative exhibition bringing together the distinct practices of conceptual artist William Wegman and NHL player and visual artist Jacob Trouba. Combining the worlds of art and sport, the exhibition emerges from a shared engagement with hockey that foregrounds the artists’ unique partnership and examines the body as both subject and medium.

Working from body prints created by Trouba, Wegman reimagines each gesture through painting, revealing an unexpected dialogue between athletic performance and artistic practice. Presented publicly for the first time, these collaborative works invite us to consider how the body can become both medium and maker.

This exhibition will be on view Sept 10, 2026 – Jan 3, 2027

“Cross Check: Jacob Trouba and William Wegman is organized by ASU Art Museum Senior Curator Alana Hernandez and ASU Art Museum Windgate Curatorial Fellow Sade Moore. The exhibition is made possible by generous funding provided by NHL Unites.
