A last minute sponsor just came through for the White Mountains Blacksmithing Convention! The whole team at AZ Metals has been super supportive! This is also the only place I know of in the the Phoenix area to get 1095 and 1075 for knife making!

Their support helps us run knife making classes as well as the convention!

If you're in the valley and need high carbon steel for knives or mild steel for other blacksmithing, give them a quick follow and visit them onsite!

The White Mountains Blacksmithing Convention is typically a $200 per person event for General Admission.

Thanks to our generous corporate sponsors, we are thrilled to offer General Admission for just $50 per person! 🎟️🔥

These sponsors aren't just supporting an event—they are partners in our mission: To create sustained growth in the blacksmithing community by teaching professional blacksmithing skills, focused on community level interests, teaching methods that foster a deep learning experience, and cultivating the next generation of skilled craftspeople.

Special thanks to the Snowflake Taylor Recreation and Parks. While not a sponsor of the event, we wouldn't be able to do any of this without them!

Head over to their pages, give them a follow, and get ready for an incredible convention! See you at the forge! 🔥⚒️

Guest Instructor Bio, Jake Trogdon:

Blacksmithing and metalwork have fascinated me for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest lessons came from time spent in a ranch shop in California’s Diablo Mountain Range, where a retired rodeo cowboy handled all the welding, fabrication, and maintenance for the ranch. Watching him build and repair whatever was needed—often by scaling drawings straight from a Grainger catalog—instilled in me a lasting belief that there is always a way to solve a problem. That practical, demanding work had immediate impact, shaping a problem‑solving approach I still bring to both the forge and the classroom today.

In my classes, I emphasize a deep understanding of fundamentals and the development of repeatable skills, giving students the tools they need to bring their own visions to life with confidence and sound ex*****on. I look forward to seeing you in a class!

Jake is one of the special guest instructors coming out to teach at the White Mountains Blacksmithing Convention this August 8th and 9th. Jake will be teaching a tool making class on Saturday, and on Sunday students will use those tools to make the decorative flower in the pictures below.

The convention is open to the public, but registration is required.
