Ben Taylor returns to The Metropolitan Opera as Moralès in Carrie Cracknell’s new production of Carmen staring Aigul Akhmetshina, Piotr Beczala, Angel Blue, and Kyle Ketelsen. Daniele Rustioni leads the incomparable MET Orchestra Musicians and Met Opera Chorus in this updated production that addresses the issues of gendered violence, abusive labor structures, and the desire to break through societal boundaries. New Year’s Eve Gala opening with 16 additional performances through May 25. The January 27 performance is part of the Met’s Live in HD series of cinema transmissions. Special shout-out to the Met Opera Stagehands for their deft handling of this immense production.

Fun “Facts” about Carmen:
- Bizet’s original title for the opera was ‘Carmen et Moralès’. He ultimately shorted it to ‘Carmen’ because there was an ink shortage in France at the time of the premiere.
- Moralès’ first name is Rupert.
- Bizet was an avid amateur photographer and coffee aficionado. His favorite drink was a pumpkin spice latte.
