Drawing with the Masters @ TAG

6 sessions. Thursday mornings 10am -noon. September 3 - October 8.

Explore classic techniques while growing your own style.

In Drawing with the Masters, you’ll study works by renowned artists and learn how to draw or improve your drawing following the classical methodology of drawing from life. This is the methodology that was taught for generations and formed most of the great artists. Line, form, tonal work and shading, timed (“gesture”)drawing, perspective, contrast, and proportion are among the elements of drawing that will be discussed, demonstrated and practiced.

We will begin with simple objects and progress to more complex ones. There will be ongoing individual review of each student’s progress. The goal of this process is “learning how to see” the essence of your subject matter and render it convincingly and confidently. Skills learned may be applied to any subject the artist may wish to develop proficiency in drawing.

Drawing is the traditional foundation of artistic progress in other artistic disciplines such as painting and sculpture. The instructor has seen students with basic drawing skills advance and has been especially delighted to have many students who said they "couldn't draw a straight line" produce drawings of a quality that they never thought possible!

Instructor Dolores Flessner is a TAG member who has taught art to regional students for over 25 years. She has exhibited her work locally and nationally and has also illustrated for a variety of publications. Her website is: www.spiritfirefineart.weebly.com

This hands-on session is open to all skill levels and supports Tappahannock Artists Guild’s mission to make art accessible in our community. Bring your curiosity, and we’ll provide the materials and encouragement you need to experiment ,learn, and connect with fellow art lovers.

6 sessions. Thursday mornings 10am -noon. September 3 - October 8.

$210 registration/$189 for TAG members.

SQUARES FOR THE CURE — ART THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

What happens when a community comes together, artists put their creativity to work, and every piece of art helps support a cure?

Squares for the Cure.

Join us at TAG on Friday, August 28 for the opening of this very special community art show and fundraiser supporting Be the Cure Tappahannock and its work to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s and breast cancer research, as well as the Ledwith-Lewis Free Clinic.

Hundreds of artists and community members have been invited to create a 6" x 6" original work of art—and every piece will be available for just $25.

That means you can take home an original piece of art, created by someone in our community, while helping support an important cause.

And here's the fun part: you won't know who created the piece until you turn it over.

Artists have signed their work on the back, but the front remains anonymous. So choose the one that speaks to you, take it home, and discover the artist behind it.

Come for the art.
Come for the cause.
Come find your square.

SQUARES FOR THE CURE
Opening Night: Friday, August 28

Bring a friend. Bring your family. Pick out a square—or two, or three—and help us turn a gallery full of little canvases into something much bigger: a community working together toward a cure.

CREATE. DONATE. INSPIRE. — SQUARES FOR THE CURE

Artists, this is your call to create!

CREATE a 6×6 work of art.
DONATE it to TAG by Friday, August 22.
INSPIRE someone to support a great cause by purchasing your art!

TAG is looking for 6×6 original artworks from artists throughout our community for Squares for the Cure, a special art show and fundraiser supporting Be the Cure Tappahannock.

Be the Cure Tappahannock brings together local, regional, and state organizations to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s and breast cancer research and the Ledwith–Lewis Free Clinic, while helping expand resources and services in our rural community.

Now it’s your turn to be part of the cure.

DATE NIGHT — FRIDAY, AUGUST 28

Come to TAG, bring your date, bring your friends, and see all those amazing little squares come together! The show opens August 28 and runs through September 19.

Imagine seeing your artwork sell while helping raise money for Alzheimer’s and breast cancer research and the Ledwith–Lewis Free Clinic. That’s art with a purpose.

DROP-OFF: TAG, Thursday–Saturday, noon–6 PM, through August 22.

Artists may sign their work on the back, but please leave your name off the visible front so the art itself takes center stage.

And remember:

CREATE. DONATE. INSPIRE.

Let’s fill TAG with 6×6 pieces and show what our creative community can do when we come together for a cause.
