Big Time Congratulations Montana Jenny! This tough as nails young lady just completed a week long pottery intensive at Taos Clay under the guidance and instruction of Greg Poole. For six days straight, five, sometimes 10 hours a day, Jenny attacked the week’s curriculum, pushing her self to walk away from this intensive with as large of a skill set as possible. At the start of the week we focused on utilitarian forms for cone 6 oxidation then changed gears, diving into the surprising and fantastical worlds of raku and sagar firing. With unparalleled enthusiasm, she began cranking out vessels for these alternative firing methods. We also broke out the calculators for basic Glaze chemistry and mixing as well as general kiln maintenance. The week was finalized with the unloading of the kilns,, discussion and admiration of the results, photographing and finally packaging for her journey. One spectacular thing I must mention was towards the end of our intensive, she assisted me with a Raku workshop of five participants and how naturally she settled into the role of a teacher; transmitting with ease to others the skills and knowledge that she possesses. This was something that helped me to see and feel the development as a potter within myself. It’s something special, of great importance but lies undiscovered until the moment arises, the egg is cracked! and you can share the gift of art and creativity to others. The inspiration perpetually inspires. Happy travels Jenny, keep on throwin’!!

Hello world! My name is Greg Poole and I am the one reopening the historic Taos Clay! First off, we will be offering classes at beginner and intermediate levels, as well as the fun and interactive Throw n’Fire Raku workshop, offered weekly, set up by appointment, and lastly we have 3 private studio spaces for rent. I am an Oklahoma native, fairly new to Taos, with 25 yrs of my life elbows deep in clay. This has been a completely berserk, trying and confusing year. Sinking your hands into some clay letting your mind relax is, simply put, just what pottery can do for someone.. let me know if you’d like to take a class, workshop, or whatever,,, message me here, check out my gallery’s website, also located on the historic plaza, here in Taos. What’s a Chanchito?
In Pomarie, Chile, the locals keep good luck charms called Chanchitos. These charms take the form of small three legged pigs that are given to friends and loved ones as a token of good fortune. A three legged pig being able to stand is a sign that he/she is lucky.
