Hands-on fun awaits our youngest museum visitors!

Join Harwood Museum of Art and the Taos Public Library for a free Storytime filled with stories, art, and creativity. Designed for young learners but welcoming to all ages, this engaging program invites families to explore together. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

After Storytime, enjoy complimentary admission to the museum and continue your adventure in the galleries.

Join us for a family-friendly gallery tour for kids 5-10 and their grown-ups. This tour is included with admission but a $5 donation is suggested. Children must be accompanied by an adult for the entire visit.

Museum Store Artist Feature: Kim Henkel

Kim is a Taos-based silversmith whose practice is shaped by her work outdoors and her deep connection to the natural world. For Kim, cast metal sculptural objects preserve moments of discovery. The preciousness of wilderness and the preservation of animals' fate are reflected in her sculptures, which embrace ambiguity while memorializing and mirroring the beauty of death and decay in nature. Many of her jewelry pieces also incorporate dinosaur bone!

Harwood was honored to co-host a workshop with Ronald Rael this past weekend in the historic village of Los Ancones. Participants learned hands-on adobe skills from a masterful team of co-instructors including Daniel Barella, Kevin Tsosie, Kateria Lopez, Mateo Salinas-Clark, and Layne Jackson Hubbard. The group was joined by the co-curators of “Unearthing Futures / Desenterrando Futuros” Eric Carpio, Adam Geluda Gildar, and Nicole Dial-Kay along with numerous special guests including Nicholas Herrera, Quinton Wilson, Scott Sutton, and numerous elders from the surrounding community.

Our deepest gratitude goes to the community of Los Ancones for welcoming us so warmly–especially Leon and Carlos Ortega, to Ronald Rael for leading our team of instructors, to Futuros Ancestral for their partnership, to Chris Arellano, Kateri Lopez, and Mateo Salinas-Clark for sharing beautiful Northern New Mexican music and teaching us to dance, the Campos family for keeping us nourished with delicious food, the Chacón family for supplying necessities like water and porta-potties, and to all the participants who traveled near and far to create community with us.

The weekend was a testament to the power of mud. This workshop would not have been possible without the support of our lead sponsors, Via Art Fund and the Adobe Archipelago.

"Unearthing Futures / Desenterrando Futuros" is the result of a deeply collaborative curatorial process grounded in relationship, place, and shared responsibility.

The exhibition and publication were curated by Nicole Dial-Kay, Adam Geluda Gildar, and Kate Miller. The project was developed in close dialogue with an advisory committee that includes Ronald Rael, Eric Carpio, and Joanna Keane Lopez. Two galleries within the exhibition are curated by artist Deborah Lujan and enjarradora and archivist Guadalupe Tafoya, guest curators whose work is rooted in lived cultural knowledge.

Beyond these named roles, the project is shaped by the generosity of the individuals and families who participated in the artists’ site visit and the development of the Adobe Road Trips across northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. By opening their homes, churches, adobe yards, and communities, they shared their labor, histories, traditions, and ways of knowing that are foundational to this project.

As with adobe itself, authorship here is collective, layered, and sustained through care.
