Jim Dine: Swaying in the Florida Night
September 8 – December 18, 2026
(Monday – Friday, 10 am to 5 pm, closed Nov. 11, 26, 27)

Graphicstudio presents Jim Dine: Swaying in the Florida Night, a survey of the artist’s collaborative prints and sculpture editions created at the studio from 1973 to 1989. Jim Dine (b. 1935, Cincinnati, OH) is a multimedia artist whose practice encompasses painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, poetry, and performance. The artworks on view offer an intimate look at the collaborative process of an artist who has consistently used printmaking as a platform for experimentation and creative expression.

The exhibition features many of the symbolic motifs that Dine has employed throughout his artistic career, including bathrobes, skulls, hearts, trees, and classical sculpture. His recurring use of this visual vocabulary began as a way to represent the personal; the robe stood in for himself, while the heart symbolized his wife Nancy. Over time, Dine’s understanding of these symbols expanded to encompass broader, more universal, and spiritual themes reflecting both his artistic evolution and lived experience. At 91, Jim Dine continues to create and exhibit art in a wide variety of media.

Liset Castillo
Untitled, 2000
silver gelatin print
8 x 10 inches
Edition: 55

Graphicstudio collaborated with Castillo on the creation of three photogravures: Rice, Garlic, and Spoon. Castillo’s minimalist, large-scale treatment of her subject matter lends great weight and importance to everyday necessities—a handful of rice, a head of garlic, an aluminum spoon—serving both as an effective aesthetic strategy and a poignant reminder of the scarcity of such items in her native Cuba.
For Untitled, Castillo wanted to publish a silver gelatin print as a gift to the Research Partners Program. The work is smaller in scale than the photogravures and represents a medium that Graphicstudio rarely uses.
