The original show, "Wax Attack" hosted by Kenny K, spawned "The Underground Railroad" with Mad Linx, Little Lou, D-Money, & G Motional. Tony Montana came o

n board when Little Lou left to pursue his acting career. The crew just kept evolving and Linx left the show for a gig at BET! After that is when Saturday Night Shutdown evolved around the year 2002. To make sure the show was in good hands, Tony Montana brought Concept on board when he left to pursue even further ambitions. And here we are! Saturday Night Shutdown

Why do so many listeners Love & Support SATURDAY NIGHT SHUTDOWN?

• We don't interrupt your listening with commercials.
• We aren't beholden to top-10 charts for music or big corporations for news and public affairs.
• We bring you eclectic music and independent, progressive news and public affairs because we can.
• We can because of listeners like YOU. Many other stations that you may listen to are automated - a computer in an empty studio. WMNF has live DJs 24-hours-a-day, who answer the studio line when you call.

WMNF FACTS that you may not be aware of...

The majority of our budget - 70% - is provided by donations from individual listener-supporters. We don't get funding from a university or a big company. WMNF came into being because one person at a time gave a little bit (or a lot) to fund a dream in Tampa Bay, and that's still how we stay on the air. In an age when a few large corporations own the majority of media outlets, and newsrooms are shrinking across the country, community radio is MORE IMPORTANT than EVER!! KEEP OUR MUSIC INDEPENDENT from CORPORATE AMERICA!!! Kenny K back in 1986, "Wax Attack" was the original show on 88.5fm WMNF which spawned the roots of Tampa Bay's underground hip hop scene paving the way for emerging artists to break through to the top! Kenny K is widely known as being a member of Digital Underground with Shock G and his projects with Chuck D from Public Enemy. So, it goes without saying our roots are deep and we strive to continually spread the word ;)

Our 88.5 WMNF Community Radio fund drive on the Saturday Night Shutdown is tomorrow. Our station is an independent radio station that for over 40 years has been a platform for the Tampa community to broadcast our voices on the airwaves. We have done this due to the 4 decades-long support shown by the bay community in the form of donations. We have recently lost federal funding that helped with a portion of our costs due to cutbacks by the current government administration, but because of the unwavering support from our listeners and community we have been able to overcome that setback and continue to be a voice and platform for the Bay area. We at the Saturday Night Shutdown would love to make our show's donation goal & continue to play our part in keeping our station going. If you would like to help us, please click the link below and donate whatever amount you can. There are gifts available for certain donation amounts & any amount helps. Also, please select 'Saturday Night Shutdown' in the show drop-down list in the donation process so that it shows the station that Saturday Night Shutdown is important to our listeners.

Thank you for your continued support!
