Our open mic turns 4 years old today!

We have met so many dope poets and artists over the last few years and are so thankful for the community that has been built. This open mic has been in 4 different venues in 4 years and have never lost the core base. There are poets who still attend every month that have been coming since the beginning and still new comers each month as well, it has become such an organic experience. We intentionally have always made this a free event because we don’t want money to be a reason you can’t get on our mic. We do this for the culture.

Haven’t promoted it at all but we’ve been nominated for Best of the Bay again, would be cool if you voted for us but more than anything we just want you here. We just want you to grow.

See y’all tonight!

And just like that, after 4 months of slam season,
6 months of working on writing and performance and group pieces and accountability, and 5 days of INTENSE stages and being surrounded by the BEST poetry in the country…. And we come out the opposite end of Southern Fried as better poets, a better team, and better PEOPLE for our city!

First shoutout HAS to go to Coach 👩🏾‍✈️ZenChristian Davis for the sacrifices she made to make sure the team had the structure and consistency! She was Mama Zen all the way through and is masterful at speaking life into poets!

The TEAM:🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒
This was literally one of the best teams experiences GrowHouse has had! Good GENUINE relationship that grew eachother but also PUSHED eachother to new levels.

Yeye Marie you BROKE THROUGH EVERY TIME! It was incredible seeing all that passion and emotion controlled and so powerful! The world NEEDS Your story keep writing from that place

Tampa Mr. Anderson your growth as a poet is unbelievable! You always had the pen game but the way you dedicated, practiced turned into a FORCE on stage! You truly transcended to another level

Fine$$e The Poet 🔔🗣🎙📝 You are undeniable! Every time you step on stage your presence is majestic! I’m so glad people got to hear your story! You instinctively understand what this artform is about You are an incredible reliable teammate and friend!

Aźzata Leone Armstrong you cane in out strongest performer and only improved your already MASSIVE on stage energy! Your writing grew so much and you truly dedicated to the process! It was easy to score you high because it’s just who you are!

THE INDIES:
Tampa was still represented VERY WELL outside of the team!

The unofficial fifth member Jasmine Mohammed lhad some incredible breakthroughs and left it ALL on stage!

Charles Hines placed 8th
Brooks placed 9th
Rick_Writes placed 15th

All in all the competition Is JUST one aspect but it’s the COMMUNITY and FAMILY and PEOPLE that make SoFriedPoetry what it is!

It’s time for us to put in some more work to continue this GROWTH!!!!
