https://www.tiktok.com/ Tampa Theatre was created by architectural designer John Eberson, one of the most prolific and internationally renowned movie palace designers of his time. In describing how Florida inspired his atmospheric theatre design, Eberson said:
“I have been wintering in Florida for the past several years, and it

is from this state that I got the atmospheric idea. I was impressed with the colorful scenes that greeted me at Miami, Palm Beach and Tampa. Visions of Italian gardens, Spanish patios, Persian shrines and French formal gardens flashed through my mind, and at once I directed my energies to carrying out these ideas.”

Great Scott! 🚗⚡ We’re bringing a classic back to the big screen at Bonnet Springs Park!

Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox in the role that would catapult him to superstardom) is a teenager with a pretty normal life in 1985 in suburban California. Normal, that is, except that his neighbor is eccentric outcast scientist Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd), and Doc Brown has just invented a (mostly) functioning time machine. Marty agrees to help him with his experiment, but an untimely interruption by Libyan terrorists traps him in 1955 and shoots him straight into the burgeoning relationship of his own young parents. If he messes things up with his future knowledge, Marty endangers his own existence.

Pretty much everyone has, at one point or another, fantasized about going back in time. It’s a tremendously powerful idea – you could bring your old self back information (omniscient advice, winning lottery numbers or, say, a sports almanac) and immediately get ahead. Even before the science-fiction concept of time travel was commonplace, everybody knew the universal human experience of feeling “I wish I had known.” But Back to the Future isn’t about the power of time travel; it’s about the risk.

Join Tampa Theatre on the Allen & Company Family Lawn at Bonnet Springs Park for this very special free On the Road film screening. Starting at 8pm, guests can enjoy movie concessions, photo ops, a costume contest (come dressed up!), and more with the film starting at sunset. Admission is FREE and open to the public, and guests are encouraged to bring picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs. Ticket not required for this event.

Tampa Theatre and Live Nation welcome comedian, television host and seven-time New York Times best-selling author Chelsea Handler to the Theatre’s historic stage at 8:00pm Friday, Dec. 18 for a stop on The High and Mighty Tour.

Handler’s humor and candor have established her as one of the most celebrated voices in entertainment and pop culture. After a strong seven-year run as the host of E!’s top-rated Chelsea Lately, a tenure during which she was the only female late-night talk show host on-air, she launched her documentary series Chelsea Does, followed by her talk show Chelsea on Netflix in 2016. She has penned seven New York Times best-selling books, six of which have reached No. 1, including her most recent, I’ll Have What She’s Having.

Following the success of her 2020 HBO Max comedy special Evolution, Chelsea earned a GRAMMY nomination for Best Comedy Album. In 2021, she launched her hit iHeart Radio advice podcast, Dear Chelsea. In February 2025, she continued her celebrated run as host of the Critics’ Choice Awards for the third consecutive year, and her third Netflix comedy special The Feeling premiered to critical acclaim in March 2025.

Tickets range from $99-$139 plus applicable taxes and fees ($111.25-$154.25 total at the Box Office & $117.75-$162.50 total online) and will go on sale at 10:00 am Friday, Aug. 21at the historic Franklin Street Box Office and our website..

Tampa Theatre and WUSF welcome Ira Glass, creator and host of the hugely popular radio show “This American Life,” to the Theatre’s historic stage on Saturday, Dec. 5 to share Stories for a Saturday Night.

Glass’s “This American Life” is heard each week by more than three million listeners on public radio and has won the highest honors in broadcasting, including the first Pulitzer Prize ever given to a radio show or podcast. Beyond radio, the show has, for decades, been one of the most popular podcasts in the world, pioneering a “funny stories with feelings” approach that has influenced scores of audio programs in genres from true crime and autobiography to mystery and current events.

His live stage show gives the audience a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at how the radio show is put together, where producers find the compelling stories, and how Glass and his staff are constantly pushing broadcasting to innovate.

Glass mixes memorable moments from “This American Life” and his own narration with pre-taped quotes and music to recreate the sound of the radio show live on stage. Audiences can expect a night full of Ira Glass’s creativity, humor, wit and wisdom.

WUSF members will have first access to tickets beginning Monday, Sept. 28. Any remaining tickets will go on sale to the general public at 10:00am Monday, Oct. 5.

Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), an ambitious and driven young witch who is misunderstood and outcast because of her green skin, and Galinda (Ariana Grande), an enchanting charmer and definitely one of the popular girls, become unlikely friends at S**z University in the Land of Oz. But after an encounter with the Wonderful Wizard of same (Jeff Goldblum), their friendship reaches a crossroads. Presumably paved with yellow bricks.

Wicked! First it was a 1995 novel reimagining/expanding on plot elements in The Wizard of Oz, then it was a gigantic smash-hit Broadway musical, then it was a genre of TikToks, then it was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, and now you personally can finally belt out Defying Gravity at the volume it deserves. Come join Tampa Theatre and Sparkman Wharf for this special sing-along outdoor presentation of Wicked, and see what the multi-decade fuss is all about.

Arrive early at 6:00pm:
🍿The first 100 guests will receive a free LED fan, courtesy of series sponsor QC® and free bag of Tampa Theatre’s famous popcorn
🍬The first 100 guests receive free Wicked-themed M&M packets
👑 The first 50 guests can participate in a free witch hat or tiara craft with Birdette's
